(More customer reviews)I've been using the Vue system for several months (part of their beta test program).If you understand the intended purpose and application for this product I think you'll be happy with it.The cameras are completely wireless - no network or power, plus they are extremely small and unobtrusive.This allows you place them almost anywhere.Because they are wireless, the product isn't designed for constant recording (battery life).The Vue system is intended to provide you with the ability to remotely check in and view your home for a few minutes at a time.While not perfect, it does this job very well.

I use this to check on my lake house when I'm not there.I have one cam pointed out a window looking out over the dock and another at the main living area.I always wonder if a storm or high wind has created any problem with the boat - so this allows me to check in, take a peek and put my mind at rest.Plus I can see if the lawn guy cut the grass or not.And when I'm at work and wish I was at the lake, I can get a quick fix ;)

Pros:extremely simple setup.Wonderful design for the cams - no wires and extremely compact.Easy to login online and view images from cameras live.

Cons: website is a bit flaky and controls are somewhat strange (but I expect that will improve over time). Image quality is adequate.

Bottom line:If you want high quality streaming video 24x7, this is not the product.If you want an easy to install, easy to use camera system to check in remotely periodically for a live view this fits the bill.

(More customer reviews)We needed some kind of security system installed as we have some problem neighbors doing juvenile stuff on our property. So far, so good on this unit. We bought it from a "big box store" so we'd be able to return it easily if it wasn't quite what we wanted.This week, we set up all four cameras at the front of our house. I had no problems getting everything to work straight out of the box. I like the long cables but I think I'd like to see higher quality cameras provided. They're fine and they're in focus and everything is recognizable, but I doubt I'd be able to do any facial recognition from across the street. The "quick guide "wasn't really much help in trying to find the main administrator menu on the machine. "Virtual keyboard"?? Found it by accident by madly clicking on the screen. Once I got into the system, it became easier of course and I already feel safer just knowing that my property is being "watched". I'll write an update on how the system is working after I've had it up and running for a couple of weeks.

Update April 2010: I've now had this unit for about 5 months and it still does exactly what I wanted. It sits there quietly doing its thing; it's nice being able to review the recordings and discover which of our neighbors left the HUGE tire marks on the driveway or which local drunk peeled off at 100mph on Friday night at 2am.Nice to have the proof especially when they vehemently deny it!We've also been asked by our HOA to provide evidence of underage driving on our streets. Their Momma denied it (no not our little angels!) I provided the video evidence to the HOA. No more problems since then. Glad to help! Archiving scenes is pretty easy once you've done it a couple of times. I use a generic USB drive. No problems.

Any criticisms? Yes, but minor ones really. I don't like the "FF" or "REW" features. You'll be revewing footage at, say, 5x speed, see the scene you want to review and it flies by while you're trying to press the1x button or PAUSE or REVERSE button on screen. Very confusing. I'd also still prefer to have higher definition cameras, so I could make out licence plates/faces but even so, just having the cameras there acts as a great deterrent. Don't get me wrong, I don't sit there scrutinizing every second of footage. Most weeks I never even go near it. But it sure makes me feel safer and a little bit more informed about the goings on our crazy street.

Skylink AD-433S Emergency Dialer Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this from the Home Security Store (a company to avoid if you appreciate quality customer service!) and it seemed to install and set up quite easily.I was surprised how easy it was to program.I wish it would take a longer outgoing message but it is limited.My suggestion is to just give your name and address and a SHORT message or you'll run out of time.It took me almost 10 times to record a message, and finally I had to WRITE my message and READ IT really fast.At first it would not dial when triggered.This was due to being hooked up inline with my cable modem and computer line.After several experiments I finally got it to work.What I had to do was hook up BOTH phone lines in the unit to a splitter!Otherwise it would not dial.I found it does work as it should.BUT, as with ALL SkyLink products I've purchase, I get DAILY false alarms!!I'm STILL trying to figure out the false alarm issue.Even with the motion sensors turned off I still get false alarms.But hey, it calls my cell phone when triggered.Only thing is how frustrating it is to drive all the way across town to check on my house only to find out it was yet another false alarm.Gee, I distinctly recall the old fable about the boy who cried wolf!After too many false alarms dialings, no friend or neighbor will ever respond if I'm out of town.

Not sure if I would recommend this or not.If I never had a false alarm dialing sent to my cell phone I would highly recommend it.But until I remedy the false alarm issue, I can only say it is worth the low price but not worth much more.

About the best thing about it is that it is triggered by ALL sensors and triggers used with other SkyLink alarms, AND the fact that it can be used alone or with the alarm on.So, you need not set the alarm unit for this dialer to work.

Only thing that didn't get this a 5 star; It did not come with a remote as pictured. It will accept 4 camera feed but it does not appear to be able to auto cycle thru the cameras without the remote. And I can't find where to buy on separate yet.

(More customer reviews)I reviewed very carefully the user guide and specs.There is no wireless encryption in this camera.Yes, it has a 'gateway' but that just connects to the Internet and you have to have a userid and password. That means that this company can access any of 'their' not 'your' cameras.

Also the wireless stream is not secured,so anyone that is sitting in front of your house with the proper equipment can spy on any of the cameras.

A really great idea, but this is one of the cheaper solutions that people with baby monitor, etc cameras have been burned with.It can too easily be snooped on.

After it is full it will display an error message on-screen, and will not record until the card is formatted. Even though it has been set to overwrite card when full. The obvious issue with this is that if it is full and you do not notice it will not record until corrected and may cause you to miss an important event. Otherwise the cameras indoor and outdoor performance have been very good.

At fifty feet same distortion, plus there seems to be a vertical syncing problem as well. Picture rolls constantly, so no DVR motion detection using these cameras. (More customer reviews)The Lorex LW2201 Weatherproof Ultra Wireless Surveillance System works as well as advertised.I only have a few minor gripes about the system.

The set-up is incredibly simple.Just plug the power supplies into the camera and into the receiver, screw on the antennas, and plug the A/V cables into some kind of monitor/TV.My camera was already paired with the unit, so I didn't have to do anything else.Pairing the wireless unit with the camera, or another camera is simple, just push 1 button on the receiver and a big yellow button on the camera and it's good to go.They claim the pairing function securely connects your camera to your receiver so that no one else can grab hold of your camera's frequency, but I have no way to test that.I'll just take their word for it.The unit comes with a small arm stand for the camera, and a couple screws to mount it.You might need extra screw mounting pieces if you want to mount it into something like brick, though.Regardless, set-up and installation is a snap.

The image is very good in daylight.However, the night vision is only "acceptable" quality.The far-red LED lights create a bit of a halo effect around the center of the camera's lens.So everything in the center of the image looks clear at 20-25ft or less, but the stuff on the periphery of the center of the image is a little darker and fuzzier.Still, you can see what's going on.Also, be sure to note that you can see the red LED lights of the camera.This is good if you want everyoen to know that you have a camera, but if you want a more stealthy hidign spot for your camera, it's definitely going to give it away. The mic works well at about 25 ft or less, but after that it definitely tails off.

So to sum up the problems: I think the night vision image is a little bad at the edges of the image, the mic isn't all that great at longer distances, my unit had one dead LED bulb on it (I don't think it really affected the image quality by itself), and the far-red LEDs are not truly infrared so you can see them with the naked eye.

The problems I stated are pretty minor in nature, though.The Lorex system is solid and you can expand it to include 4 total cameras, and even view them simultaneously split-screen in your monitor.Overall, I recommend this unit for a simple security solution.

Pros

- Highly sensitive microphone
- Low light capability
- Very easy set-up
- Will interface with your television - will allow for a split screen using your picture-in-picture.
- Works with a recording device - a DVR, VCR, or other devices.
- Alarm for any changes in status - if it detects movement or sound
- Decent range (Not great but not bad)
- Monitor will support up to 4 cameras

Cons-

- Need to watch for audio feedback if the monitor gets to close to the camera (It could wake a baby) ... note that this is standard for any audio equipment if the receiver gets to close to the source.
- A bigger screen would be nice - if I was trying to find something to complain about

Final Verdict-

Great product at a reasonable price - the Lorex LW2002W is a easy product to review and enjoy!

(More customer reviews)I purchased 3 of these cameras to go with a Q-See 4-channel PCI card.I set up all three on my office desk, under good lighting.One camera has a decent image, one camera has a poor image, and the image from the third camera is sowashed out that it is practically useless.The night vision feature allows you to make out shapes from very close range, but not much else.Even on the "decent" camera, the color is poor.Prior to this purchase, I was looking at some demo systems at Sam's club, and the image quality with these cameras is much, much worse than even the entry-level, bargain cameras that were being demonstrated.I would recommend that you keep looking for a better camera, as this one has a poor picture quality.

Though its rated @ 300 ft, I could not get a picture @ more than 50 ft and even poorer picture with a lot of flickering @ more than 12 ft. For instance, I cannot use the camera from my attached garage, and no unusual obstacle in between. The accompanying power cable is too short to allow flexibity in location but you can buy an extention cable. Also, I still can't get the auto vcr recording to work. Night vision is poor, color is not so great.
However, If you will be using it close to the receiver, its an excellent security camera for its price under $100.00. I like the trigger feature that beeps whenever a movement is detected.
By and large if you know its limitations and are imaginative itsnot a bad device to have. I am planning to get more around my house as the receiver can handle 4 cameras but I can't get to buy an isolated camera without another receiver. I don't know if its compatible with other 2.4ghz cameras.
