well these cameras are pretty good, but that 656 foot range? forget it.like any other 2.4 ghz camera its gets best reception of 300 feet.ok now here are my problems: i found myself having to move the receiver in all kinds of different places around the room.there is no night vision, however it does well in low light conditions.the sequencer is a nice touch.this would be a great system for you if you are planning to keep the cameras close to the receiver.otherwise dont get this.but if you think about it, $120 for a set like this cant be beat!

VideoSecu Hi Power IR 540L CCD Camera w/16mm Lens Night Vision Video Security Camera 1DT Review

VideoSecu Hi Power IR 540L CCD Camera w/16mm Lens Night Vision Video Security Camera 1DT
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I think this camera is actually 5 star worthy, however, the lack of detail in the product description is the reason why I am giving it 4 stars.

I was taking a chance with this camera since no one else had place any reviews for it, but with the price I got it for, I figured I'd try it.

First of all, let me say that this camera is not a wide angle camera as I was assuming. It is zoomed in, I think the ratio is 1:1.6.I actually need a wide angle camera, so this did not suit my needs properly.Although, I suppose I should have known that in the product description when it says "Long range", so it's partially my fault as well.

However, if you do need to be able to see far distances, this camera works really well. The infrared LEDs do a great job of lighting up the scene, even with no additional lights on outside. My back patio is very dark and I was able to see the woods in the distance pretty well.

Also, the screws that come with it confused me a bit.On the bottom of the camera, there are two screw holes, however, this only came with one screw to mount the camera. When I went to mount it, I realized the screw is too long to fit into the camera. The way I found to fix this was not very obvious to me at first. On the rear of the camera, there's a little bracket that will fit a screw as well, which is held in by two hex-screws. The fact that a hex-wrench was included with this camera hinted to me that I had to use it somewhere. With the included hex-wrench, I was able to remove the rear bracket and then use it as a spacer to mount it on the bottom. This is actually a useful feature in case you want to hang your bracket from a ceiling.

Also, this only comes with the camera and the bracket. No power supply or cables.Fortunately, I already had both since I was replacing a Swann camera that already had the wiring and power going to it.

I will probably end up selling this camera as my goal is to be able to see as much in a close distance, but like I mentioned, this is great for longer distances.

Sony SNC-RZ30N Pan/tilt/zoom Network Color Camera Review

Sony SNC-RZ30N Pan/tilt/zoom Network Color Camera
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When this camera arrived I set it down on the living room floor and connected the network cable to my home network switch. I could not access the camera using a computer running vista but could with the mac and an XP machine. I installed the java controls and the camera was easy to control. Next was to configure the network router to allow access from outside. The documentation included with the camera is adequate but the documentation included with the slingbox was easier to follow. After that I mounted the camera on a tripod and set it at the window. I could control the camera with the computer at the office. At Christmas I tried unsuccessfully to access the camera from an XP machine at my sister's house in another state.

Product Description:
The Sony SNC-RZ30N Pan/tilt/zoom Network Color Camera combines a responsive pan/tilt movement, auto focus, low-light sensitivity, and a powerful zoom, with a network connection and IP capability, making it ideal for surveillance and remote monitoring applications that require orientation and focus on different details. With the addition of its compact design and advanced feature set, the Sony SNC-RZ30N is perfect for a wide range of surveillance applications including the monitoring of people and property in buildings, offices, warehouses, retail outlets, and shopping centers.
The Sony SNC-RZ30N Color Network Camera is a digital network camera that distributes live images or video over an intranet or the Internet via a built-in web-server. The Sony SNC-RZ30N allows high-quality remote surveillance from any browser on the network, and provides full Web-based control of its various management and configuration functions. Connecting via 10/100 Base T/TX Ethernet, the SNC-RZ30N uses the JPEG compression format and achieves up to 30 fps (frames per second) via the NTSC TV signal system.
This integrated PTZ (pan/tilt/zoom) camera provides up to 736-by-480 effective pixels, with an extraordinary 25x optical and 12x digital zoom that allows you to clearly pick out even the most distant objects. The Sony SNC-RZ30N features activity detection, and includes a built-in alarm input/output and video output. This camera even presents a transparent interface from RS-232C/485 to Ethernet for network-based control of external devices connected to the camera, and allows up to 50 concurrent users to access the camera via the Internet at levels determined by administrator security settings.
The Sony SNC-RZ30N has a pan-angle range of 340 degrees with a tilt-angle range of 115 degrees, and can cover the entire panning distance in under two seconds with speeds that can be manually controlled or set to automatic. This unit features the ability to set 16 areas of interest and have the camera rotate between them automatically. This camera also features an 8 MB image buffer, a PCMCIA slot for wireless, good nighttime sensitivity with a minimum illumination of 0.18 Lux.
Technical Features:

Sensitivity: minimum illumination of 0.18 Lux
Effective pixels: up to 736 by 480 pixels
Zoom: 25x optical and 12x digital
    Pan/Tilt: 340-degrees of panning, 115-degrees of tilt
    Connection: 10/100 base-T Ethernet
The Sony SNC-RZ30N surveillance camera is a reliable, economical and high-quality solution for demanding interactive surveillance and is designed primarily for indoor use. User's should note, however, that the camera's image sensor may become permanently damaged if exposed to long hours of direct sunlight or halogen light, so the camera should not be mounted or pointed directly at the sun or other bright-light sources. This camera also requires a PC that is not included in this package in order to take advantage of the Internet functionality.
About Surveillance Camera Technical Features
Lux rating is the measurement used to indicate how sensitive a camera is to light, and stands for the level of light reflected off a piece of paper by a candle from one meter away. Thus a sensitivity of three would mean a camera could generate an acceptable picture of a piece-of-paper-sized object that was illuminated by the equivalent of three candles from one meter away. The lower the level, the better the camera's ability to work in low-light conditions. The camera's resolution should be greater than or equal to the resolution supported by the system's recorder or monitor. The S/N, or signal to noise ratio, is an important measure of a camera's quality. A poor camera, low-light conditions or poor wiring causes "noise" which consumes processing power and disk space. A camera with a wide dynamic range is ideal, especially for recording areas in which both indoor and outdoor light are present. CCD (charge-coupled device) sensors provide high-quality images that are less susceptible to noise. CMOS (complimentary metal-oxide semiconductor) sensors offer less image quality, but are usually more cost-effective and energy efficient.
About IP Cameras
An IP camera can be used to project images and video directly through a computer's Web browser for remote monitoring. An IP camera, unlike a web cam, contains the IP and Web page within it and can often be added to a network without additional configuration or software. Combined with a network video recorder, an IP camera can be used to construct a reliable video surveillance system.
About Pan/Tilt Cameras
A Pan/Tilt Camera has the ability to pan ("move" horizontally), or tilt ("move" vertically). IP cameras often have pan/tilt capability. A pan/tilt camera is ideal for monitoring of situations that need a continual real-time adjustment of the views.
What's in the Box
SNC-RZ30N camera AC adapter and code, Ethernet cable, I/O receptacle, ceiling mount kit, ferrite core, CD-ROM (setup program and user's guide), installation manual

The card is as easy to install as any other.I run it under XP Pro on an old AMD AthlonXP and everything works just fine. The pack-in software is an incredible value--I wasn't expecting something as mature and polished. The software might be worth the purchase price of the card.I replaced a Lorex Time-Lapse VCR with this for less than the cost to repair the Lorex, and haven't looked back.I retain a month's worth of video at better quality than the VCR with no tape-juggling.Also, being able to keep an eye on my house from work with a browser is a very nice upgrade.

Axis 207W Wrls Network Camera Wireless 802.11G 30FPS In VGA Res Review

Axis 207W Wrls Network Camera Wireless 802.11G 30FPS In VGA Res
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had this camera for a few weeks.I'm very happy with just about everything about it.I do not agree with another reviewer that it is cheaply-made, nor do I fear breaking the camera itself.A few caveats; read on.

Big advantages over other network cameras in this class:

1) Excellent image quality compared to other cameras in this class.Even though this camera uses a CMOS sensor--vs. a CCD sensor, which generally offers better video quality--the particular CMOS sensor used in this camera works very well.It has excellent low-light characteristics (supposedly down to 1 lux, which is candlelight-level, but I think that's a stretch). It has auto-brightness control.Turn down the lights and the video dims briefly then brightens right back up.Best video and fastest update is of course under decent lighting conditions, but indoor residential incandescent lighting or indoor lighting with only the light coming through the windows is just fine.

This CMOS sensor is also progressive-scan, which improves the picture quality over that coming from normal (interlaced) sensors. You can read about this on the Axis website (the URL is obvious).

2) Uses true MPEG4 compression. Most inexpensive network cameras in this class offer one type of video compression, known as Motion JPEG (or MJPEG).This offers a very good picture, but is a bandwidth hog.If you intend to stream video over the internet and you have limited bandwidth, you need something better. As an example, I have 2-3Mbps downstream on our cable modem, but only about 350kbps upstream.Upstream is what matters when you send video over the internet. This camera can stream 30 frames per second (fps) at 640x480 resolution. That's a lot of data and if it is not compressed well enough, it takes up too much bandwidth. That makes the video on the other end look jerky, with picture updates as slow as one frame per second.

This is where MPEG4 compression comes in, but you need to be careful.Again, most cameras don't offer the level of MPEG4 support that the Axis 207W offers. Some cameras say "MPEG4" but nothing more. This can be very deceptive. Here's what you need to know:

-- MPEG4, Short Header mode (SH):This is essentially no MPEG4 compression at all. It's like "faked" MPEG4.

-- MPEG4, Simple Profile (SP):This is true MPEG4 compression, but it has limited capability.Linksys has a network camera with this type of compression.

-- MPEG4, Advanced Simple Profile (ASP):This is the best MPEG4 compression offered in network cameras of this type today. The Axis 207W offers this type of compression.

Not only does the Axis 207W stream 640x480 at 30fps with MPEG4 ASP compression, it does so simultaneously with streaming Motion JPEG.So you can easily choose which one you want to see.

There are even higher levels of MPEG4 compression (past ASP) but I don't think any inexpensive network cameras offer it yet.

Other nice things:

a) The camera comes with two types of swivel mounts:one which is like a short pedestal, weighted; and one which is essentially a plastic C-clamp which allows you to mount the camera to the edge of a table or top of a chair, for example. The C-clamp does seem a bit fragile; I would not crank down too much on it.

b) The camera comes with an extra length of power cord (an extender) so if the "wall wart" power supply's cord is not long enough for your application, just add this extension between the camera and the wall wart cord (this is not a 120VAC extension cord.)

c) Ultra-configurable.Just about everything about the camera seems to be configurable from the settings.

d) Wireless works well.I've only tried WEP, but it was a breeze to set up.In fact, the whole setup was easy. You do need a little bit of networking knowledge to set up port forwarding in your router, but most of the camera defaults are right on target. The camera also offers two types of WPA.

e) Axis offers a free Domain Name Service (DNS) which allows you to pick an easy-to-remember web address. For example, you could pick "SantaClaus" and the address of your camera would be SantaClaus---axiscam---net, where the --- is actually a dot (.) [My first review got squashed by Amazon because I forgot and put in a URL.]

Here are the disadvantages I see:

1)Focusing is tedious. It's a 2-person job: one to hold the camera steady and turn the focus ring and another person to view the image on the screen and give instructions to the first person.

2) Audio is not very good. It's set at a very low level and even after turning up the slider control to the maximum, I still had to have my computer volume turned up quite high to hear any camera audio.Of course then other sounds from the computer (warning beeps etc) are very loud. This is one thing which is not configurable.Audio can be set to ON or OFF, but there is no setting for the level.Axis should fix this in their software.

3) It's a bit expensive. For the same price you can get a pan-tilt model from Panasonic or Linksys, but the image quality on those cameras is not as good, and they do not offer MPEG4 ASP compression. You have to give up something to get something, it seems.

4) There's no "privacy screen."This would be easy for Axis to add--just a simple flip-down shield to cover the lens when you don't want the video to be seen.We use a simple box I made out of a sheet of paper.Of course you could also unplug the camera, but that takes a bit longer.

I see these disadvantages to be very minor when weighed against the excellent performance of this camera as a whole.

One last point: I showed the video to a person I work with who owns the Linksys WVC200 camera, and he said he thought the Axis 207W's video was cleaner.

D-Link DCS-900 10/100TX Home Security Internet Camera Review

D-Link DCS-900 10/100TX Home Security Internet Camera
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this camera as a means to check my house while I am gone on vacation.I never heard of internet cameras before until recently while looking at PC catalogs.I ended up buying the DCS-900 because of the price and the good reviews I read here in Amazon.com.Let me tell what my experience has been so far.

Getting the camera setup on your local LAN is fairly straightforward. As long as you know the IP address of your router and how to do simple network configuration for the camera, you should be up and running in 10 minutes.

On the otherhand, configuring the camera for access from the web took me 2 days of searching for info on the Internet, emails to D-Link technical support, firmware upgrade for my router and constant rereading of the manuals and the D-Link Knowledge Base.Listen carefully because here's what they don't tell you about the product beforehand if you want access your camera from the web.

1) Camera's default port is 80. If you have Cable or DSL broadband, most ISPs do not allow access to port 80 to discourage their customers from setting up webservers on their network. You have to set the camera to some other port like 800 or so.

2) You must be comfortable with setting up your router and understand how port forwarding and virtual server table works. If you have a firewall, then you must make more configuration changes.Make sure you access to your broadband router and you feel comfortable making these changes. D-Link documentation only reference their own routers as examples.

3) If your broadband connection has Dynamic IP addressing which most cable and DSL subscribers do, you have to set up a Dynamic DNS account with services like DynDNS.org or TZO.com.There, you create a DNS address (i.e. - www.myname.com) that will map to the dynamic address of your broadband connection. The software on camera will perform updates to the Dynamic DNS for you if your IP address changes.

4) You will also need a static web service account for the ActiveX Xplug Control software to be located when accessing the camera.Essentially this is a place where you can host webpages onto for access from the Internet. My geocities.com account prevents me from uploading the xplug.ocx file onto the server w/o an upgrade to a premium account at this time.

5) Make sure your router has the latest firmware to support virtual servers. This was the last step that prevented me from making the camera visible on the net.

Soooo....after all these steps, I was very successful in getting my camera up and running just the way I want it.I think this is a great product and I highly recommend it.You do have to have a little bit of network experience to comfortably configure everything.

I can not give it the full five stars because I think the documentation was fairly lacking when it comes to describing what you need to do to set the camera up for Internet access. As a matter of fact, even the description for the camera setup itself was somewhat vague and very terse. However, once you get pass all that, I am happy to say that it all works well!!

I bought this DVR system several days ago, at the beginning I doubted the price, because I have accessed several DVR systems from my friends, and they all cost very high, I never excepted a system at this lowest price, but because of the cash crisis, I had to try my luck and purchased this system at about $200, Package arrived 2 days earlier than scheduled time although I selected regular shipping, I am quite happy with it!

The camera has 30 IR illuminators which making them for day/night surveillance.

I had problem when installing the DVR card to PC. The PC did not detect the DVR card. I emailed the seller and they provide instruction to set the jumpers. Then it is OK to use.

One word, I am very satisfied with the system! I recommend it to anyone who need DVR system and look to save money. One suggestion: please do not forget to purchase separated cables for extension, I am so lucky that I got them from my friends.

This camera is not worth 300.00.i would say not even $30.00,the colors are washed out because the IR cut filter is not removable and the resolution is horrible. Definitely avoid this camera as the plague.

The unit has good motion detection and that is about all. The instructions do not work for the unit setup so you have to call Support. Support is good however. The really bad thing is the camera resolution. My three year old cell phone camera has better resolution. The video is washed out if the subject wears a white or light colored shirt. Anything within 8 feet or so is washed out. Beyond 12-15 feet the video poorly renders the subject.

NOT FOR THE NOVICE.YOU MUST BE VERY COMPUTER LITERATE AND KNOWLEDGABLE ENOUGH TO KNOW WHAT EQUIPMENT YOU NEED TO OPERATE THIS SYSTEM.Misleading when viewing picture. If you are a novice, the picture appears to have a dvr recorder. When actually it is a dvr capture card. I had never heard of a dvr capture card. I needed an affordable security system for my small business and this system appeared to fit my needs.NOT FOR THE NOVICE. There was no power supply. If you assume that you will get every thing you need to operate these cameras then you are in a rut. If you do not order the AV CABLE that you need, you are stuck! If you are in a rush like I was, you will need to purchase individual 12 volt dc plugs for each camera and four very expensive boxes of CCTV cable wire $49.99 (Radio Shack Brand) per 50 feet @ Radio Shack. I'm sure there is less expensive. But when you are short on time and knowledge, you pay for it.It should be explained in bold letters that you NEED AV wire which has its own power supply and is very inexpensive when you purchase from the company. This wire is impossible to find in local stores.I found none.I needed my system up ASAP and had already paid for expedited shipping. I spent an additional $300 dollars on wiring, dc plugs and extension cords

Erector Spykee - The Spy Robot Review

Erector Spykee - The Spy Robot

I got one of these from Toys R Us for Christmas. Here's my review of it. 1st the instructions could have been written better. (a lot Better)After spending 3 hours to get it together its a lot of fun. being able to control it from anywhere via wi-fi is cool. There is a slight curve in learning to maneuver it around without tipping it over (once its tipped your done if you are remotely controlling it) all in all its a pretty cool toy, yes, just a toy, that said here's what I'd like to see improved in the next version or maybe just an update to this.
1 The camera, there's no zoom, pan, tilt or rotate on this so what you see when controlling it is strait ahead. Seems like this would have been and easy addition since there are already web cams out that can do this
2 the arms, the arms, they do nothing, can we get some arms that maybe pick things up? or maybe even assist when the thing is tipped over.
3 The Sound, the volume is not very good, if your in a quiet room yes you can hear the thing. but the slightest noise downs it out..maybe we can get stereo speakers with a little more volume?

All in all I'm happy with this product and feel its worth the money. yes I'd like to see improvements, but compared to other items like it on the market this one rocks..

Panasonic BB-HCM527A PoE Ceiling Mount Dome Network Camera with Tilt Motion Review

Panasonic BB-HCM527A PoE Ceiling Mount Dome Network Camera with Tilt Motion
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Businesses have used security/surveillance cameras for many years, to identify people in certain areas of the building, to watch for suspicious activity, or to catch people in the act of doing evil deeds. However, as technology has improved and prices have dropped, these cameras have now become popular additions to home security systems as well. While many people still choose Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras and recorders, mostly due to their low cost, the added flexibility of network cameras (otherwise known as IP cameras or Internet cameras) is starting to greatly influence homeowners. Network cameras allow easy installation and integration with your wired or wireless home network. While CCTV cameras require a standalone monitor to view the images, network cameras can be controlled and viewed from any computer on your home network, and can also be viewed from outside your network with computers, cell phones and PDAs that have an active Internet connection. But choosing a good network camera that meets your needs can be a bit tricky, as most of the network cameras currently on the market are either low end (relatively inexpensive) or high end (extremely expensive); with very few choices that fall in between. If you're looking for a network camera that you can control pan, tilt, and zoom, it can be very difficult to find a quality device that is affordable. Well Panasonic recognized the strong need for a mid-level network camera, which would offer features that are usually only available on high priced models. They answered this consumer need with the Panasonic BB-HCM527A PoE ceiling mount, dome network camera; complete with motorized pan, tilt and zoom features.

Setting up a home computer network and adding IP cameras to this network requires a bit of technical aptitude, so you may wish to call upon the help of someone with a computer technical background if you are not very tech-savvy. This review is for the BB-HCM527A network camera, so I am going to concentrate on the camera itself and not include a long dissertation about home networking in general.

The Panasonic BB-HCM527A network camera is NOT a Wi-Fi device, so you need to make sure you are able to run a CAT5, CAT5e or CAT6 cable from your network router, switch or hub to where your camera will be mounted. This model is also a PoE (Power over Ethernet) device, so you will want to make sure your network has a PoE switch, or you will need to purchase a separate PoE injector. Although PoE technology is becoming more popular in business environments, most home networks do not yet utilize this new and somewhat expensive technology. However, the advantage of PoE is that your power travels over the same Ethernet cable as your data; meaning that you do not have to have a power outlet right next to where you plan to mount your camera. I do not have a PoE network in my home, so I purchased the PD-3001/AC 1PORT Poe Injector Ac Input 802.3AF and Cisco Supported, made by PowerDsine. This allowed me to run a cable from my network switch to the injector, which plugs into a wall AC outlet, and then run another cable from the injector to the network camera itself. You now have your power and data connections all in one wire.

This remarkable device is a feature rich network camera, with nearly all of the bells and whistles you could want. It is able to pan from -175 to +175 degrees, giving a total sweep of roughly 350 degrees. Mounting the camera to the ceiling is a fairly straightforward process, utilizing the easy to follow instructions and mounting hardware, which is all included in the camera kit. It has a tilt angle adjustment from 0 degrees (straight down) to +82 degrees. The zoom capabilities of this camera are not quite as impressive; offering only a 4.6x zoom (2.3x optical, 2x digital). Still, for most home or small business applications this should prove to be sufficient. Video output can be adjusted between three different resolutions, at up to 30 frames per second. Output formats include JPEG, with three different quality settings, and MPEG4. The light sensitivity of this camera is from 2 to 100,000 lux, and can go all the way down to 0.2 lux when in "Color Night View" mode. It also allows 2-way, half-duplex audio, with a built-in microphone and an output for an external speaker (sold separately). Buyers should be aware that there is no built-in speaker in this camera, so it will only allow 1-way audio unless a self-powered speaker is plugged into the camera. All video and audio from this camera can be monitored from your home or business network, or from outside your local network with a computer, or a web compatible cellular phone or PDA; all using a free Internet service called "Viewnetcam." This Internet service is totally free for anyone who owns a Panasonic IP camera, and it gives full access to all of the camera controls, configuration settings, and video/audio output from the camera. I could go on and on, explaining all of the features and specifications of this network camera, but I will simply list them below for your review.

Midland AVPH3 Transparent Security Headsets with PTT/VOX (Pair) Review

I have tried other kinds of these things and there was always 2 problems. 1 they hurt after a long shift. 2 they made it hard to hear it was as if you had an ear plug in one ear. These worked MUCH better both ways. Because of the acoustic tube you can still hear with the ear that has the piece in it. I found out right away that even after a 12 hour shift my ear was not sore from wearing this. If you want to use a two way with an ear piece this is the only way to go.
