Real-time recording,Wireless WiFi IP Internet Pan Tilt Dual,Two-way Audio Camera IR Day/Night Vision Review

Real-time recording,Wireless WiFi IP Internet Pan Tilt Dual,Two-way Audio Camera IR Day/Night Vision

Camera was a rip-off of actual Foscam FI8908W. See [...].

Box was obviously opened, and wire ties were off. Contents didn't exactly match packaging. Since it was a ripoff of a Foscam camera, you can't get support from it. However, with a lot of tinkering, it does work as advertised (thanks to all the manuals linked to from the site above).

It will work with iPhone using CGI protocol outlined in site links above (look for IPCam CGI SDK 1.7 link). Also works with eyeCam iPhone app using Foscam PTZ settings.

Audio quality is horrible. mic picks up only loudest sounds. internal speaker is very poor. Audio jack on back is a farce, and is just a hole drilled in the back to nothing!

Stay away unless you really know what you are doing with setup.

Homeland Security 897N 2.4 GHz Wireless Color Waterproof Camera and Receiver Review

Homeland Security 897N 2.4 GHz Wireless Color Waterproof Camera and Receiver
Average Reviews:

I was so excited when I purchased this product at Wal-Mart, and sooooooo disappointed when I got it home and took it out of the box.Setup was easy enough and straightforward. You have 3 different channels to select from.Set the receiver and transmitter on the same channel and plug the receiver into a video input on your TV and you are ready to watch a jumpy picture, full of lines. My first test was with the receiver about 25 feet apart with the 1 wall between them. The picture jumped around and had a scrolling line constantly moving up the screen.
My next test was to take it to the basement where I have about 30 feet of unobstructed, line of site view between the receiver and transmitter.
Result: the picture still had so much static and rolling lines that the motion detection system I had it hooked up to was constantly activated even when there was nothing in front of the camera.
I would have packed it up and taken it back that night, but I don't think I could make two trips to Wal-Mart in the same 24-hour period.
In all fairness, I do have the following working against the camera:
1. Wireless network that runs in 2.4GZ range
2. A cordless phone that runs in the 2.4GZ range
3. Live in a city, but not that heavily populated

I was quite surprised that the camera did not work in my basement, because it is no where near my wireless network or my cordless phone.

Recommendation:If you live in the country, don't have a wireless network, don't have a motion detection system, or don't have a cordless phone that operates in the 2.4Gz range, then you might give this product a try.If you do, make sure you purchase it from a retailer that has a somewhat liberal return policy.

A better bet might be an IP camera from wireless manufacturer like D-Link.Wireless IP cameras have the advantage of security and digital control.

Motorola Homesight HMEZ2000 Wireless Home Security Monitoring Review

Motorola Homesight HMEZ2000 Wireless Home Security Monitoring
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First, let me say this was one of the easiest to setup video systems I've ever worked with.It truly does setup in under 30 minutes.Additionally, it does have some nice features, such as the following:
1) Ability to text message your phone with a text message of an event, or a picture from the camera
2) Ability to daisy chain events if you have multiple components (but there are limitations, more on that in a sec)
3) Ability to send video to your email address (for example, the system could email you the video of a home event, such as the front door opening, to your work computer)
4) Ability to have multiple components in your system ranging from video, door/window sensors, to power controllers (for lamps, TV's, etc)

Ok, enough about the good, let's talk about the bad. This system unfortunately has too many limitations to be worth the price.Additionally, the limitations impair this system from doing what it's designed to do: Be a home security system.I'll take each limitation in order of severity (most severe to least severe):

1) This system can only record one video feed at a time.So let's take an example of a simple setup.Let's say you have the home base, one door sensor, and three cameras (one camera at your front door, the other in your living room, and the last in you master bedroom). You setup the logic of the system as follows:
- If the front door opens, arm all the cameras
- If motion is picked up by any camera, capture an image and send to my work email
- Additionally, if motion is detected, record a 60 second video (which is the maximum length of video you can record before the camera has to stop, reset itself, and wait for another motion event before it will record again), and send the video to my work email
So you feel really good knowing if your front door is opened, the system will arm itself and capture an image and a video of the intruder, and send it to you at work.

Well, here's what happens in reality. The front door is opened, and the system arms correctly. The front door camera detects the motion of the front door, and the intruder entering, so it snaps a image and sends to your work email. Then it starts to record.Well, the intruder quickly moves to the living room, so the second camera detects motion, and tries to capture an image.Unfortunately the front door camera is still recording, so the living room camera is ignored. No picture is taken, and no email is sent. The living room camera then tries to record video, but because the front door camera is still recording, again the living room camera is ignored. The same this happens as the intruder enters the master bedroom. In fact, all cameras other than the front door camera will be completely ignored until the front door camera finishes recording. So as you can see, this isn't much use as a security system as it will likely miss the action, unless there is only one camera in the entire system.I spoke to tech support about this, and they said the only thing I could do was to shorten the video time to the lowest setting (10 sec).I did this, and yes, this does sort of work, but you end up with multiple 10 sec videos, with some dead space of no recording in between the short clips.Additionally, you still end up missing events if two cameras trigger within 10 seconds of each other. Again, this is not an effective way to get a complete video of what's occurring at multiple cameras.

2) The system can accommodate a total of 12 wireless cameras, 3 wired cameras, and 16 other devices (door switches, repeaters, power controllers, key stations, and sirens). This makes the system sound very flexible, with the ability to capture a lot of different events, and control many aspects in your home. But the thing that is not highlighted or explained in any online reviews is that the system can only have a total of 16 events that it can monitor. And two of those events are already taken by the system for Home, and Away settings, and you cannot delete those from the event scheduler, so in reality, you only have 14 events that you can monitor. And keep in mind, if you want to monitor or do anything with any individual component, that will take up at least one event. So let's look at a somewhat complex system.Let's say you have 8 wireless cameras, 1 key pad, 1 siren, and 3 door switches. So obviously, you'd like to monitor each of the door sensors, and have them set off the alarm any time someone comes through the doors, so that will take up three events from the event scheduler, so now you are down to 9 events left. Now you want to monitor motion at all the cameras, so that's 8 more events, and now your left with one event left. Now you want to use the keypad to arm and disarm the system.Well, that's an additional two events, so too bad, you can only have the keypad do one or the other. And what if you wanted the system to auto arm and auto disarm during the week nights, and do the same during weekend nights, but at a different times for the week versus the weekend. You would need an additional 4 event slots to do that.So too bad, you are stuck, and will have to decide if you want to take back some cameras, forget about some door switches, or take back the keypad. To me, this was the most ridiculous part of the whole system, and really indicates to me that Motorola pushed this system out to consumers under-developed.I guess they figure the average person would only have one or two cameras.I had only 3 cameras, and one door sensor, and I still ran out of events.

3) Event Daisy Chaining - The system allows you to daisy chain actions in one event, or I should say, is supposed to allow you to.For example, let's say a door sensor is triggered, and you want to arm the system, take a picture at every camera, and sound the siren.Well, in theory it should work, and according to tech support the system should be able to do it, but in reality, its more than the hardware can handle. What really happens is that it arms the system correctly, takes a picture with the first camera listed in the daisy chain, and then stops and does nothing else (including sounding the alarm).Again, this is a clear indication of pushing this out on consumers before it was truly functional.

4) Picture Quality and Signal - This system works in the 2.4GHz range, the same as other wireless devices (routers, phones, lan cards, etc).It should be able to run in this space without any issues, but unfortunately that's not the case. All of the cameras had static, and a static line that would go from top to bottom ever 10-20 seconds, similar to old TV's with antennas (for those old enough to remember). And on top of that, the images/videos were not very clear.Granted, this is 320x240, so its not going to be high in detail, but after using other cameras using this same resolution, I can clearly say that Motorola just plain used a poor quality camera.

These were enough limitations to drive me to take this product back.I'm not sure if these limitations will be fixed over time, but I doubt they will be able to correct most of the problems, since I believe they are hardware related (such as one video at a time).I would highly recommend another solution if you are considering a multi-camera setup.I ended up going with the D-link DCS-5300W, which is a far superior product.I can now record up to 16 camera feeds at once, and they are crystal clear with no static whatsoever. Also, the cameras pan and tilt, giving me even greater flexibility.Granted, the price for the cameras is greater for the D-link, but you don't have to purchase a home base, nor do you even need a computer for that matter. So in the end, I paid about a $150 more for the D-links, but I'm a much happier customer.

Hope this helps in making your decision.

After purchasing this, they then try to get you to sign their service agreement.
I want everyone to be aware of a couple things:
1.) In spite of the fact you pay a premium for the equipment, it completely diactivates should you ever cancel the service, and you are left with a bunch of useless equipment.
2.) There is a 2 year minimum contract
3.) Also, even though there is no finincial risk to InGrid should you cancel early, they slap you with a $175 early termination fee if you should cancel before 2 years. You might want to be aware of these things before you buy.
I should add that I tried to cancel my service immediatly after becoming aware of these things after reading their SLA, and the lady on the phone was about as insistent I stat as an AOL

rep, and lo and behold they still shipped out the order today and charged my credit card (I canceled 2 hours after placing the order, after hours, and here it is 3pm the next day and they

shipped it anyways, so I'm sure the request to cancel was completely ignored)

Over 99% of security companies are small, local or serve customers in just a few areas. InGrid is one of just a handful of nationwide security companies. InGrid's national footprint allows us to bring you breakthrough safety features and advanced services that most other security companies cannot offer. Since you own your InGrid system, you can take it with you when you move.

We partner with over 25,000 local police, fire and medical agencies in all 50 states. InGrid's monitoring center has spent years developing and maintaining the proprietary databases and relationships to know who to call so that during an emergency, time is not wasted getting you help. It's just another part of InGrid's commitment to rapid response.

What's in the box

The InGrid Basic System includes a Keypad Console, Handset, three Sensors and Base. The system is designed to protect homes, condos and apartments up to 1,500 square feet. InGrid also offers a "Home System" for homes greater than 1,500 square feet. The only thing you need to operate your security system is a high-speed Internet connection, an in-home router, and InGrid Home Monitoring service (once again, no annual contract is required). Please note that your InGrid security cannot be fully activated without a subscription to an InGrid home monitoring plan ($29.99/month with no annual contract).

The Console – Not a Typical Keypad.
The InGrid Keypad Console gives you everything you'd expect from a security system keypad, plus a whole lot more. Not only does the Keypad Console act as your command central, it also acts as information central, displaying up-to-the minute weather as well as severe weather alerts. Need help remembering things? The console can also display customized notifications on the easy-to-read screen (such as important dates like birthdays and anniversaries).

The Handset – Better Control Means Better Safety.
The Handset, which doubles as a cordless phone, can be taken with you anywhere in and around your home. Your system's controls and panic button are always at hand. Instead of a single keypad anchored by your front door, you're now free to roam your home, backyard or porch AND have instant access to your home's protection. What's more, the handset allows you to monitor activity in other rooms of your home. A phone line is not required for your security connection, but is required to use the handset as a cordless phone or digital answering machine.

Door/Window/Cabinet Sensors
Door/window sensors, also known as open/close sensors, are designed to detect the opening of a window, door or cabinet. These sensors are the most common component of any security system, typically used on exterior doors and windows.

InGrid's sensors can be used for non-emergency notification on things such as on firearm, medicine, or liquor cabinets. Sensors can trigger an email, text message or MyInGrid event indicating that something has been moved or opened.

From the Manufacturer
InGrid was designed to go from box to full home protection in minutes. While InGrid can be set up in an average home by almost anyone in roughly 90 minutes, it is built to deliver far superior reliability and security compared to traditional systems. Since you install it yourself, there is no need for strangers to come to your home, drilling holes in your walls or special tools. If you can plug in a cordless phone, you can set up your own customized secure system, easily.
Each kit comes pre-configured; you simply open up each numbered box and plug in each component sequentially. When we designed InGrid, we created a system that offers superior home and family protection in every way possible. While most systems have a single point of vulnerability (a single master control panel that can be disabled in seconds), InGrid distributes the control points to several controllers, each a fully functioning mini-system that continually talks with all of the sensors. If one component is disabled, the others are still protecting you.

But InGrid is so much more than just home security; your system can also send you alerts and allow you to monitor non-emergency events that are just as important to your peace of mind. Whether you're on vacation, at the office, or out to dinner, you'll be able to tell who's coming and going, and when, without alarms or the police showing up.

InGrid Home Monitoring is included with your monthly security monitoring. Please note that your InGrid Security System cannot be activated without a monthly monitoring plan. With our 30-day risk-free guarantee and no annual contracts, there is no reason not to install InGrid and enjoy its superior protection, convenience and value.

Q-See QSDS148DH All-Climate Low Temperature Camera Review

Q-See QSDS148DH All-Climate Low Temperature Camera
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When my CCTV security system was struck by lightning, my previous Q-See camera (Q-See QS2350C) at the gates was fried. According to Q-See, that model is now discontinued although some are still available. So I purchased this one because it appeared to be a very similar model. The design and construction are quite good. The image is decent both in color and in infrared B&W. I especially like the heater and fan. I believe it will be a rugged camera that should last quite a while (if we don't get hit by lightning again.)

My problem with the camera was the field of view. It comes with an 8mm lens. I cannot move the mounting location and the view angle for an 8mm lens is about 42 degrees. So I could see only a small part of the driveway at the gates. I went to the Q-See site and found that they used to sell wide angle lens. However, they have stopped doing so. I emailed their customer service and asked where I could find a wide angle lens. That was weeks ago and I have never received an answer. So I started searching the web and found that what I needed was a 2.8mm Mini Board Lens. I'm sure Amazon won't let me tell you the company but I found it on a site that ends in Bay. For less than $15 with free shipping, I was able to replace the lens and I now get a 110 degree view angle. The difference is amazing. I did have to focus the lens by screwing it into and out of the board but that was pretty easy with an assistant to watch the monitor.

If you purchase this camera, keep the view angle in mind. If you are mounting the camera less than 50-75 feet from the area that you wish to see, I believe you will be very disappointed.

While camera set up was a little tasking I am disappointed more with the Multiview software. It is missing some of the advertized abilities such as email alerts only with some controls being greyed out and can't be used. It does not have any automatic trigger (motion) to take pictures and requires a lot of hard drive memory to store long survalence video. Hoping for an revision to the software but do not expect any.
Overall, it is ok for manual short term remote viewing but falls short of a video security system.

I have two now and another on order. These are great little cameras for indoors, and out. They do say water resistant, but I am going to fabricate an enclosure to keep the sprinklers off. They can be hidden from view.I put one in a window looking out.Another is outside looking down the driveway. Mounting tip: use the screws provided and a 4-12" piece of 2x4.Very portableand concealable! Good color picture. NOT day or night, no infrared LEDs.But overall picture, in daylight color runs circles around Swann Bulldog (and cost 50% less). I am going to use with street lamps & security type lights.Does have audio, but I have not used that. For what it is, it is very cost effective.Good color picture, and clarity upclose (my license plate) and accross the street (can identify neighbors at 50 feet). I can see leaves move in the wind, and adjusted the motion detection sensitivtiy for these cameras in the Swann DVR down.

I purchased this systemand also a couple of the longer range cameras for my business and had it installed by an electronics person. It worked okay for a couple of months and then started having numerous problems. I called and sent e-mails to the SVAT company for months but did not get a response until today and that was to inform me that they would not do anything because the system is no longer under warranty and suggested I spend another $700.00 to replace some of the faulty equipment I purchased. Of course I got no response from this company while the equipment was under warranty. VERY BAD EQUIPMENT and VERY UNETHICAL BUSINESS PRACTICES!I wish I could give them a minus 9 rating!!!!

Astak Pan/Tilt Night Vision IP Network Camera, Black Review

Astak Pan/Tilt Night Vision IP Network Camera, Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've always been curious about what goes on at home when I'm not there. What do my dogs do all day? Can I watch my new little baby play and maybe take its first steps while I'm at work? This product is one of the simplest electronic products I've ever set-up. All I had to do was plug-in the camera, attach it to my home router and log in to the Astak site. My cameras were up and running.

This product can be used for so many different purposes: to be a video security/surveillance system, check on things at a business or home, or whatever else you can think of doing. Check out the stuff posted on You Tube. People actually caught people robbing their business.

This is what I like about this product:

1. Setup was a breeze
2. Only one wire to plug it into an outlet for power.
3. I can move the cameras around as needed. For example, some days I put it in my garage to watch the dogs while I'm gone. On other days, I have the camera sitting on the dresser in the babies room.
4. They are linked to your internet wirelessly
5. The website and camera functions are very easy to use
6. The image quality is great and the night vision works awesome.
7. I can share my camera with my family anywhere so that they can see whats going on. (Even my Brother-In-Law in the Army)
8. The range of my camera seemed just as good or better than my wireless home phone.
9. Works great with my iPhone to check in via the web.
10. The Yoics software program is very easy to use and easy to see other family members camera on a secure network. ( Many additional features also for remote desktop applications)
11. Directly posts videos to You Tube
12. Email alerts, motion detection, scheduled recording times, etc.
13. 270 degree turning radius with full tilt
14. Audio- so you can remotely hear what's going on
15. Remote viewing,sharing, and controlling

This is what I wish the product would do better:

1. Provide me with an iPhone app soon so that I can quickly check-in with one push of a button
2. Have a way for me to zoom into an area to get more clarity.
3. Have a battery back-up Overall, I think the product is excellent for people that want to see what's going on in places when they are not there and they are not tech savy enough to hook up more difficult systems. I would recommend this for anyone and plan on buying more cameras in the future.

Swann SW-C-SNO Super NightOwl 105 - Pro CCD Powerful Wide Angle Security Camera w/ Night Vision 82ft/25m Review

Swann SW-C-SNO Super NightOwl 105 - Pro CCD Powerful Wide Angle Security Camera w/ Night Vision 82ft/25m
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this item based on positive word of mouth however I am somewhat disappointed in the performance of this camera. The camera is advertised to have up to 82 feet of night vision although in a realistic outdoor setting (with almost complete darkness), I would say that objects (at night) can be adequately distinguished at most 50 feet away with this camera. The night-vision picture quality is passable with obvious noise and pixelation, even when some minimal ambient lighting is available.

The camera's build is sturdy and its appearance is actually a bonus for us in some settings since this camera doesn't really even look like a security camera but rather more like a lamp. Unsuspecting thieves would probably get caught red-handed by this camera simply because it blends in well with our other outdoor lighting.

Picture quality during the day is adequate for most purposes and is in line for a 420TVL camera. Calling this "high resolution" is a bit exaggerated though. I have personally compared 420TVL units that cost half as much but produce far better night-vision imagery (for example: Q-See QS2350C Weatherproof Color CCD Camera Kit With Built-in Heat Circulating Blower).

Yes, this camera does have a wider angle of view than most cameras however for us, image resolution is a higher priority and I'm afraid this camera just doesn't quite make it.

Bottom line: Pricey for what you get. Consider night-vision alternatives such as the Q-See Q2350C.

One important note: The IR LEDs will primarily focus toward the center of the image, which on your TV or monitor will produce a type of "flashlight" type image. Because this camera has a wide field of vision (although not panoramic unfortunately), any object not in the center field of vision will not show up as well under night conditions UNLESS you have sufficient ambient lighting. Depending on your situation, this may render the wide-angle view useless at night since you won't be able to readily identify people moving outside the lens's center field of vision.

Cisco-Linksys WVC54GCA Webcam 640x480 802.11G Wireless Internet Home Monitoring Camera Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this camera 2 weeks ago and put it above my front door looking out onto my walkway and street and it works great. It's 802.11 G/B so it scales back if you have only a B access point. It takes good 640/480 up to 30 frames per second video. It's got a couple of low light enhancements you can turn on which work pretty well.DONT be disappointed if it can't see in the dark it's NOT a night vision camera.However... I don't yet know if it can see IR.I guess I need to get out a remote and see what happens. So a few people posting reviews have said it's not easy to setup. Not True!!I guess if you don't know anything about home networking, port forwarding, or WIFI then yeah of course it's going to be hard to setup. But don't come bashing the product just because you lack the skills to set it up correctly. Now I will admit I'm a IT professional and make a living doing so but, anyone with basic networking skills should be able to get this camera working in 10 minutes.Now... That doesn't include the time to tweak all the settings as it will take several days and some time to get everything just how you want it.

I got an iPhone that I use all the time to watch streaming video. In fact I used the iPhone to setup the camera using it as my hand held display so I could see what the camera was seeing.

One thing I will mention that I'm not really fond of is the motion detection system. If you turn it on, it requires you to choose either FTP or Email for the alerts. The problem is that even with the sensitivity really low it still triggers and you get like 10 million emails. Now that's not entirely the blame of the camera cause every time a cloud goes over my house the sidewalk changes because of the lighting and causes the camera to trigger a motion detection event. But if you were using the camera inside your house it would most likely function much better.

The camera comes with a CD that has some recording software that works ok.I've had it crash more than once in the past two weeks but it seems to happen when you have the motion detection enabled to send videos via Email.I switched this feature to JPEG's instead of motion and the application hasn't crashed since.

The camera does do audio but only when watching the playback on the software or using IE 6.0 or greater to watch the live video directly from the camera.I.E. you can't hear the sound with Firefox or Safari. However, you can adjust all the settings and get it going without IE so if you're a Mac person like myself you will need to have access to a PC at some point especially since the recording software, motion detection, and live video viewing with sound portion of the camera uses a Active X control that only works in IE.

All in all this Camera is an Awesome camera for $107.It did everything I wanted and more and it works well. I ended up buying 2 more of them since I was so pleased with the first one.

Just make sure before you buy this that you meet the following requirements.

A. Know what your doing when it comes to networking or you will be disappointed as with any network device it takes a level of skill to set it up.
B. Make sure you have access to a PC to setup all the things that require and Active X control and IE 6.0 or greater
C.Don't expect the device to see in the dark with great precission
D. Remember that you only paid $107 for something that does almost as much some of the other expensive stationary network cameras on the market.

I bought this system over wireless systems because I'd heard an awful lot about poor reception , and interference . I installed this over a period of a couple days , running the wiring through my attic.I have two cameras inside and two out. I also hooked it up to two different monitors that I had.I got the splitter at Radioshack. After it was all done and hooked up I was really impressed with it's clearity. It's remarkable. I have had it up for a month now with no problems.I emailed tech support asking about an adjustment in setting up the cameras and I got an immediate response to my question. It's even clear at night.I can see what's going on in all parts of my house.

I bought half a dosen of those for a project at work. Plugged them in and left on for a couple of hours. Most of them burned out even thought it was in a regular office enviroment with conditioned power source! All LED's became dim. To get to higher power, the manufacturer probably operates LED's above the allowed current limit, which results in very short life time of the device.
