(More customer reviews)I am pleased with this product and the price.I set the camera, lights, and audio to turn on/record when motion was detected except for daytime when I set it for only the camera and audio to turn on/record. It's really nice having the options of the different settings.It was relatively easy to assemble, program, and install.Considering I'm a 50-year old mother of three, I had no difficulty installing it in place of the flood light over our garage.I like the way you can position the lights and the motion sensor/camera to just about any position you want.It was also easy to remove the memory card, an allen wrench is supplied to open and close the cover, and of course a ladder was necessary since I installed it above the garage.The videos were crystal clear when I viewed them on the computer.I don't know yet if the memory card (2gb) that comes with it will have sufficient space, but so far so good.

Panasonic BB-HCM531A Outdoor Pan/Tilt PoE Security Network Camera (Silver) Review

(More customer reviews)For an outdoor IP camera, this camera rates high with me and even more so after comparing it with the Toshiba IK-WB15A IP camera. I set it up as a weather cam, but found it did really great as a security cam. With a 2GB SD memory card in it, I have seen over 10,000 images on it. I record every passing vehicle, triggered by motion, and every 60 seconds for the weather. Looking forward to getting the MegaPixel version soon.

Down side of this camera, no optical zoom options in this body style. The camera has a 10X digital zoom which is not something I see as not being good for much.

Now the good side:
Nice sharp images during the day time, even of moving objects like cars and people running past the camera.
Automatically adjusts the shutter speed at night, and does good in low light level, but not good enough for sharp images of moving objects at night.
Multiple alarm settings (5) really nice and easy to set up.
Records a great sharp image of moving objects in day time. I see all who drive by! Makes a great stand-alone security camera.
SD Memory card slot, with 2gb, I have about 10,000 images on it.
Multi view Screen, view 4 cameras at one time.
Can view and move PTZ over cell phone/PDAs.
Fast PTZ.
PTZ limits are nice and wide, both up and down, and side to side.
Audio I/O are located where they are protected from the weather, unlike the Toshiba IK-WB15A, that you cannot use if you use the sun shield.
Built in mic, very sensitive!! Not only can I see you, but I can hear you!
POE, makes for easy installation! Would not have it any other way. Love it!
Small body size.
Good WB control, the colors are true.

In general, I am very pleased with the way this camera works.

Swann SW244-WDW Red Alert Security Kit Review

After 7 contacts to Swann by e-mail and telephone I was finally issued authorization to return it for exchange which I did the same day. I finally received the fixed unit 3 weeks after that. The Red Alert Wireless System seems to be a good system when it works, but Swann's Support and Customer Service is lacking until you really get their attention.

I was able to set up the dlink wireless camera in just a few minutes and view on the internet. (Panasonic took a lot longer but instructions on the review were great help!)

At first I thought this camera was horrible because the picture was so blurry.
I figured out that I had to turn the front lens to get it clear and was impressed with the picture. :)
I have not had to mess with it since then and the camera works well.
I have motion detection setup and every time someone comes up to my front door or walks in my front yard I receive a picture in my email. I think it is very cool and the picture is pretty nice.
One thing you cannot do with this camera that you can do with the Panasonic is control movement from the internet but I am ok with that. Also, I sometimes try to connect to my camera via mydlink and the connection is broken.
I haven't had time to figure that out yet but I suspect it has something to do with comcast.
I do still receive the motion detection emails even when I cannot connect to the camera over the internet from work so I know its setup issue.
Sound is also quite clear!

I do not think it is fair for the other reviewer to give this 1 star because it doesn't work on their iphone so I am giving it 5 stars :D
I can understand the frustration they may have. Maybe you can ask dlink support for assistance?
P.S. dlink support was supportive when I had a question about ports to set up with motion detection.
They did only have to direct me to comcast support which took multiple calls and finally on third call I got a port that worked and emails from motion detection are now sent out using comcast email.
Port is 587 for comcast smtp setup.

All in all it is a pretty decent camera.

Panasonic BL-C140A Outdoor MPEG-4 Network Camera (Silver) Review

(More customer reviews)This review is going to be somewhat technical and I'll mention some other choices.I've installed more than 10 Panasonic network cameras across the product line; so how does this one compare?The whole series is rock solid reliable.As far as the practical use as an outdoor cam, the BL-C140A is a middle of the road compromise.As other reviewers have discovered, the night time image quality is not very good.The BL-C140A has a 1/4" CMOS sensor which produces a little bit better daytime image than the 1/6" CMOS on the popular BL-C111A and BL-C131A models.If you're looking for a cam to mount in an outdoor location that is protected from direct moisture (like hanging under a sheltered roof eave) then I'd recommend the Panasonic BB-HCM511A instead.The BB-HCM511A uses a CCD sensor (vs. CMOS) that produces a richer dynamic range of colors during the day, and has much better low light sensitivity.It can still show the scene under moonlight, whereas the BL-C140A would show a pitch black view.If you truly need an "outdoor" camera because it's going to be exposed to the rain, then the BB-HCM531A is an excellent outdoor model.The only difference between the BB-HCM511A and BB-HCM531A is that the BB-HCM531A comes with an extra plastic cover for the connectors in the back.Panasonic charges more than $200 for this piece of plastic, so it you're crafty you can make your own weatherproof cover for the BB-HCM511A cable connectors and save some money (hint: silicone sealant works).Note that if you don't already have a POE enabled switch, the BB-HCM series doesn't come with a POE injector so you need to order that separately.Coming back to this BL-C140A model, the other thing I didn't like is that the POE (Power Over Ethernet) is proprietary instead of using the industry 802.3af standard.So if you have a POE switch then it won't be able to use all the neat power management features.The BB-HCM series however does support the 802.3af POE standard.If your budget is just enough for this cam, the BL-C140A still a wonderful unit.If you can afford to pay just a little bit more then check out the other models I mentioned and you'll get a superior night time view.Here's another tip, if you want to have the camera view on your desktop all the time in Vista or Windows 7, go to the Microsoft Windows Live Gallery and search for Panasonic to download the CoconutView Sidebar Gadget.Then you won't even need to open the browser windows to get a peek at what the camera is seeing.

(More customer reviews)This is first time with this camera. It is very cold and very windy ( here in Jacksonville Florida) at the time of this recording. The TV receiver is connected to a VCR Recording what you see and hear. The camera comes with a good recording software for the PC, BUT!!! the computer does NOT record the sound, that comes from the camera. Connect the receiver to a DVD recorder, will try that next, it will work. Picture quality is good, BUT! ( I know you wount like my but) The video is step motion, which is ok considering the total cost of this system. I will carry the TV receiver and Camera in my pocket,They both have their own rechargeable batteries, Hide camera, show receiver to friends, they will flip out when they see them selves.

Panasonic BB-HCM511A Network Camera with Two-Way Audio Review

(More customer reviews)For a while the Panasonic BL-C111a and BL-C131a were my favorite of the Panasonic lineup for monitoring the pets and vacation house.Now I discovered the BB-HCM511A and this amazing little cam is THE BEST!It has a 1/4" CCD detector instead of a 1/6" CMOS in many of the other models.I can get a night time view of the ranch because the CMOS goes down to 0.2 lux instead of 3 lux.That's about the limit of human night vision, or a moonlit night.I couldn't do that before with the BL-C111a cam that this replaced.Also the CMOS sensor has much better dynamic range, which simply means more colors.So whereas with the BL-C111a the shades of green on the plants look flat, the BB-HCM5111a gives the scene much more definition with all different shades: slightly bluish green, slightly reddish green etc. and this has the visual effect as if it had greater resolution.I love the PoE feature because I can just run a network cable without running a separate power cable.To take advantage of this you need a cheap PoE injector or a fancier switch that supports PoE.I use the SMC GS8P-Smart switch for PoE, which is a newer model router with good reviews.I also use the CoconutView Vista sidebar gadget so I can always see all of my Panasonic cams on my desktop.To download this gadget go to the Microsoft Windows Live Gallery on the web and search for CoconutView or Panasonic.There's also an outdoor model, the BB-HCM531a but it's almost twice as expensive and from the installation manual it appears that the BB-HCM531a just has a cover on the back that you screw on and tape over the cables to protect the connectors from moisture.So I think this one is a better value for placing under eaves and protected outdoor sites, unless your plan to install it where it will be directly exposed to pouring rain.Ok just buy it, you will be happy with this cam.
