Sharx Security VIPcella-IR SCNC2607W Wifi Wireless IP Network Camera with built in MicroSD DVR and Infrared Night Vision

Yes, feature-laden camera the size of the palm of my hand. We've been agonizing over which of today's modern home security cameras we could purchase to replace the old VEOs we've used for years.

We read an article in a magazine which mentioned Sharx as a possible solution, so we decided to take a look at its website.

We were encouraged enough to order one of the Sharx SCN2607W indoor cameras. After trying it out for a spell, we can relate what we like about it:

-> Manual = well-written.Kudos to the tech writer!

-> We can set up a camera using LINUX which is our primary operating system at home.Yes, we can use a Mac or a PC, too.

-> We can use the camera's wireless functions or we can hook the camera directly to our home CAT5/6 network. We tried both and had no problems.

-> We can have images emailed to our ISP email account (e.g. Yahoo! or Gmail).

-> We can monitor the camera with our Smartphone, Touch or any browser at any internet cafe in the world (where politics allow it ;-).

-> If we want to archive images/video, we can use a computer already on the home network to receive files for storage. We *don't* need a separate digital video recorder (DVR) or network-attached storage (NAS) as part of a package to store images or video files generated by the camera.

-> OR, we can insert a MicroSD card which the camera will manage for us by overwriting the oldest file if the card is about full.If we don't want to lose a file from the card, we can ask the camera to send the files to whatever storage device we're using on the home network.

-> If you know how to set one up, your home network storage device can be an ftp or http server.Maybe you already subscribe to an ISP that lets you ftp or http files to remote storage. You can send your files there.

-> The point of much of the above is: maybe you already have the basics of home security video monitoring - you just lack a good camera. This is an excellent camera!

-> The built-in motion detector works fine.We can adjust the sensitivity and threshold with Firefox running on LINUX but an ActiveX add-on for IE7 provides an additional GUI flourish that's nice to have.

-> Video resolution, frame rate, etc., are adjustable.Various streams are available from the camera to suit different viewing/receiving/storage devices. For instance, there's a stream available that's suitable for a mobile phone. (This feature we have not tried yet. . .)

-> The IR LEDs light up a large room at night.

-> The camera comes with a mounting bracket that you don't have to mount.Just set it on a shelf and it won't fall over!Don't like where you put it the first time?Pick it up and move it (which illustrates one of the advantages of the WiFi feature!)

-> Sharx' *outdoor* cameras have an additional interface that can send/receive triggering signals to/from professionally installed security systems (e.g. window breaking sensors, perimeter intrusion, etc.)

That's all we've had time to investigate in one evening. There are more features we'd like to investigate, but we're impressed by the camera so far. We've decided this is our solution and will order more of the cameras.

EasyCAP DC60 - USB 2.0 Audio/video Creator Capture High-quality Analog Video Review

EasyCAP DC60 - USB 2.0 Audio/video Creator Capture High-quality Analog Video
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First off, let me tell you - This is an amazing deal. I have 3 computers, and while this doesn't work with two of them (It gets a scratchy audio noise, I think it's a problem with NVidia chipsets), it works with the third one. The problem most people are having is that it doesn't "display video correctly". After installing it, it should be recognized as a Syntek STK1160. You'll need to change the video from PAL to NTSC (If you live in America or Japan). Go to Control Panel -> Scanners and Cameras -> and right click on "Syntek STK1160" and select "Video Decoder Property". Change it from "PAL_B" (Or whatever it is) to "NTSC_M" (for America) and "NTSC_M_J" for Japan. You'll know the right one when it says "Signal Detected: 1". Enjoy ^_^

It doesn't work right with VirtualDub, but you can use AMCap (Google it) to record your video, and VirtualDub to edit and produce it.

Enjoy your AMAZING deal :D

SecurityMan Remote Control Pan Base for camera (PANBASE) Review

SecurityMan Remote Control Pan Base for camera
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This Securityman Pan base had me surprised as it exceeded my expectations, I've owned cheap pan remote controlled bases in the past, this one is better than them by far. I do not own a Securityman camera that the mounting bracket was designed for, but it didn't matter, I used a Uniden UDWC23 Wireless Video Surveillance Accessory Portable Indoor Camera (Black)& I affixed the wireless camera to the Securityman base and it works perfectly.I just bought a new home that has a 77' screened in lanai in the shape of an L and I wanted to be able to watch my cat while at work to make sure he didn't try to escape from the new home. (indoor only cat)I had two options, buy another uniden camera for $100, or buy a pan remote controlled base, I made the right choice as this product worked perfectly for my needs, no more rear of the home blind spots my security cam can't see.

Not to mention, my cat loves his new 77' lanai, my old lanai was 12' long, the Securityman has 370* coverage, I can remotely look at whatever my cat is looking at from my home office. This is a good product well worth the $29 plus shipping

Skylink SC-1000 Complete Wireless Alarm System Review

Skylink SC-1000 Complete Wireless Alarm System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a wonderful system that allow for peace of mind when leaving the premises.I bought the complete system with alarm and dialer. The systems come linked together, so if someone sets off the door/windows alarms or the motion detector, the dialer will begin calling the pre-programmed numbers with your custom pre-recorded message. So far it has worked very well.Thebuilt in alarm is unbearably loud, so be careful if you set it off by accident.Be sure you have the remote handy as you do NOT want to get near it to disarm it. It has the ability to trip the phone dialer based on the sensors by themselves, as a whole, or by the main security system. The dialer can be set so that you can hear the numbers being dialed, or you can opt to make it completely silent.I have mine silent as I don't want someone finding it and pulling the phone cord out.Besides, the alarm is enough to scare anyone off.The motion detector is very touchy however, and it will trip the system with slight movement. In my opinion that is a good thing. At night I set it so that only the doors and windows are alarmed, and the motion detector is off. This is a handy feature.I've purchased many security devices lately and this one is certainly the best.If you combine this with an in home motion detection webcam such as the Linksys WVC54GC you can not only be alerted via phone, but also get pictures sent to your cell phone, send streaming media to your cell phone, or simply hop onto the web and view your house in real time with no computer needed. This is my setup and it gives you an amazing piece of mind.Just be sure to mount everything out of sight!

Product Description:
Featuring rolling-code technology, the Skylink SC-1000 Complete Wireless Alarm System provides maximum security and reduces the likelihood of false alarms. Suitable for homes, offices, 24-hour stores, businesses, or wherever security is a concern, this all-in-one system offers a 100-foot operating range, installs in minutes, and requires no monitoring services or fees.

The SC-1000 is a complete, easy-to-install wireless security system that requires no monthly monitoring fees. View larger.Reliable, Cutting-Edge System Uses Trouble-Free Wireless Connections
Keep your home or business safe and secure with this reliable, cutting-edge wireless security system. The SC-1000 utilizes innovative technology with trouble-free wireless connections to provide security, making it a great choice for protecting against intruders and safeguarding in case of an accident, fire, flood, or other emergency.
Do-it-Yourself Security Eliminates the Need for Monitoring Fees
The SC-1000 is a do-it-yourself system, which means you can easily install it yourself and then use it without paying monitoring fees or registering with an alarm company. To arm or disarm, you simply enter your personal code or use the keychain transmitter.
Rolling-Code Technology for Maximum Security and Fewer False Alarms
The Skylink SC-1000 Complete Wireless Alarm System:

    Offers fast, easy installation
    Utilizes Advanced Rolling Code Technology
Automatically calls for help in the event of an emergency
Dials up to 9 different numbers of your choice and sends out your personal 40 second message
Can be customized using up to 30 Skylink accessories
Does not require expensive, monthly monitoring fees

Skylink is the first company to incorporate rolling-code technology into a home/business security system, which means that the SC-1000 provides maximum security while virtually eliminating the number of false alarms. A rolling code (or hopping code) is often used in entry systems that don't require a key, because it prevents an eavesdropper from capturing and using your personal security code. Thanks to rolling-code technology, the SC-1000's control panel will recognize radio waves only from its remote sensors (door/window sensor, motion sensor, and keychain transmitter), thereby preventing high-tech thieves from duplicating signals and tampering with your system.
Motion, Door, and Window Sensors for Reliable Emergency Protection
The SC-1000 comes complete with a motion sensor and two door/window sensors--enough coverage for small- to medium-sized homes. Because it works in conjunction with up to 30 Skylink security accessories, including Dial Alert, Alarm Detector Sensor, and Flood Sensor, this system can be customized to suit your needs and can be expanded to accommodate larger spaces or businesses that require a higher level of protection. If any sensors are triggered when the system is armed, the included 110dB siren will make a piercing sound, and the sensor will immediately send a wireless signal to the system's dialer.
Automatically Calls for Help in an Emergency
In case of an emergency, the SC-1000 follows a straightforward process to make sure you get the help you need. When you receive the system, you can program the emergency dialer to call up to nine different phone numbers, including your cellular phone, a pager, your doctor, relatives, friends, neighbors, etc., should something trigger one of the sensors. You'll also record a personal 40-second emergency message. In case of emergency, the system's dialer will automatically dial the number or numbers you have entered. Once the recipient picks up the phone, the emergency dialer will play your prerecorded message and inform the recipient that you are in an emergency situation and that help should be sent right away.
Lighted Keypad and Low-Battery Indicator for Easy Operation
Offering simple and straightforward operation, the SC-1000 features a lighted keypad that is easy to read in dark conditions and offers Chime, Instant, and Delay modes. It runs on AC power with nine-volt alkaline battery backup (battery included), and provides a helpful low-battery indicator to prevent a loss of power.
What's in the Box

Foscam FI8918W Wireless/Wired Pan & Tilt IP Camera with 8 Meter Night Vision and 3.6mm Lens (67

Foscam FI8918W Wireless/Wired Pan & Tilt IP Camera with 8 Meter Night Vision and 3.6mm Lens - Black NEWEST MODEL
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Summary: Overall this camera does everything well, and for the price, nothing comes close.

Setup was quick and painless. I plugged the camera into my router with the included cable and after checking my router settings for the IP address, I could access the camera straight from a browser. On the settings page I only modified the username/password, adjusted the pan/tilt speed and added my wireless settings. There are a lot of other options, but these are the basics to get up and running and allow placement of the camera anywhere within range of your wireless router with only the power adapter.

The picture is clear and works in all light conditions from total darkness to daylight. The IR is very useful in both of my toddlers rooms at night. The wide angle allows me to see a lot and with the pan/tilt I can see everything.

We have iPhones and we use an app called "Foscam Surveillance". It works well with these cameras (including the pan/tilt function) and is only $5. We can also access these cameras from outside our home over the internet either from a browser on say my computer at work or using the app on my iPhone. My husband set that up, send me a message and I will see if I can have him post some instructions on how to do that. It's great for checking on the kids when they are with the sitter or knowing that our home is safe when we are gone on the weekends. The peace of mind has been priceless for us.

My husband and I already had a few of the previous model, the Foscam FI8908W. Although not a giant leap, there are some definite improvements that make this a worthwhile upgrade. Some improvements are:
1.) Increased pan/tilt range and speed settings (fast is nice when following a running child!)
2.) Slightly improved look and smaller size
3.) Replaced the activity light on the front of the camera with an additional IR LED
4.) The onboard speaker and microphone have much clearer sound than the old model and are accompanied by additional audio input and output jacks on the back to allow an external speaker and/or microphone.
5.) Ability to turn off the IR LEDs from the web interface

Conclusion: My husband and I have found this IP camera is easy to setup and works well to remotely view areas around our home. Believe me when I say we did a lot of research, and for the price, nothing comes close to this IP camera.

We use the product with 2 cameras. We needed something that would allow us to have some visibility of the front door and driveway when we were in a location of the house without front windows. This product allows us to quickly and easily view without going to the front of the house. If exterior lights are on the night view is pretty good, otherwise it is about 8 to 10 feet from the camera with the night vision. We have the monitor set up to the TV to enlarge the view.Based on weather and other external factors the picture may be fuzzy at times...but definately clear enough for what view is needed. We are very pleased with the purchase and would recomend.

Night Owl Security Products LION-4500 4-Channel H.264 Video Security Kit with 4 Night Vision Cameras
Average Reviews:

The box feels very cheap.

There is no way to set it up without having a TV. What?

Tech support is so bad it isn't funny - I asked questions and they read in the user guide to give me responses. No responses that were not straight from the manual.

The Internet interface does not allow for proper configuration of the unit.

The box is supposedly Linux but tech support can not give a way to get to a text interface with it. I assume (probably erroneously) that if I could get a shell prompt I could configure this properly.
My assumption was probably in error because the web interface was obviously not programmed by someone who understands English well. In fact, it feels as if it were programmed by someone who has little to no understanding of English and who used some cheap online translation tools to come up with menus.

The BNC connectors and cables and mains cables are anergonomically thin (cheesy looking and feeling). Sure, the DVR only uses 12 W (plus the HD. What?) but so what?

I find it odd, really. I mean, sure, I know that I'm picky, and all, but this was the highest rated system for the price. The highest rated system I could find anywhere - doing a ridiculous amount of research. What it all comes down to, I guess, is that other people must go into purchases with low expectations, or something. I want something that will work! I'm astonished, in this day and age, that this is the best that we can do. In fact, I'm quite positive that for the price this is nowhere near the best we can do - it's not even "average"! It's appalling! And it's missing the simplest of things! It doesn't matter that you can get to it from an iPhone if the interface you can get to doesn't make sense and doesn't have any help in it! At least I go out in the field and see my users and see what issues they have and then get fixes and clarifications into our tools. That is so not the case here it isn't funny.

The user manual (or unit) is so bad it isn't funny."You cannot connect to the Internet [something like that] if you go through 2 or more routers."What? That's not how TCP works.Sure, they don't want to provide services (don't want to have to help people set this up) but that doesn't meant that it can't do it.Unless, gasp, it can't do it.Which would be worse than just having bad documentation!

The viewer software provided with the unit crashes every time I use it.Good work, guys! And, it's not like I'm doing anything fancy - I'm just trying to view files saved on the DVR!

Lastly...This looks one heck of a lot like the cheap crap that they sell through Harbor Freight.Yeah, sure, the name badge changes but...So?It's not like "Night Owl" actually exists in this country anyway! It's just a phone number! And, as pointed out earlier, the people at the other end of the phone don't even know the products!Lame.Garbage.Save your money for a decent unit!

After lastly (ha)...The Iphone app is crap. You can look that one up - it's called APlayer.Note the generic name? That would be because they sell this junk under a bunch of different names not because they're using open standards or anything like that.Minimal interface, no help, no workie! What?Me?Bitter? You bet.I hate getting taken!

Archerfish Solo - The Thinking Camera (Grey) Review

Archerfish Solo - The Thinking Camera
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this camera because I thought it had a unique look to it.And, though it is certainly unique, it's everything else about this camera that makes it worth posting a customer review......

The entire installation process - from opening the box to getting video notifications sent to my email - took less than 30 minutes.

Despite the fact that the camera communicates through my router there were zero networking challenges.Set it up by plugging it in to the router (the connector and cable are part of the camera assembly), run an easy piece of software and it's instantly part of your network.

Assembly was a snap and you can easily adjust the viewing direction and angle of the camera after you've got the camera mounted where you want it.

In my case I've mounted the camera on a shed in my back yard and have it pointed back towards the house. It's at least 100' from from where my router sits - not to mention that it's communicating through a number of walls.

I have very little patience or interest in handyman type projects - even for me this one was a no-brainer.

I would strongly recommend this camera to anyone - regardless of technical or handyman type skill!

VideoSecu Outdoor Indoor Imitation Security Camera Fake IR Style Dummy CCTV Camera 1PX
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I also bought 3 of these to cover my carport/porch and driveway. They look very realistic. My only suggestion for improvement is something that draws attention to the camera, such as motion activated sound, movement or light. This would require changing batteries, so it's really a trade-off. But, without drawing attention to itself, the camera relies on an intruder seeing it. So, I also bought some signs and stickers.

The other reviewer's comments about hanging it from the ceiling are unfounded. The "camera" housing has mounting holes on top and bottom, so you can choose to mount it standing up or hanging down.

Uniden UDW10003 Wireless Video Survillance Portable Security System (Black) Review

Uniden UDW10003 Wireless Video Survillance Portable Security System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was looking for a video monitoring system for use as a baby monitor.I tried a few devices like the Summer Infant Day and Night analog Video monitor. These were terrible...constant static, poor picture, and not secure at all.Your neighbors can eaves drop on your signal.

This Uniden was quite nice: Very clear Digital picture, secure with its digital frequency hopping and very easy to set up...you basically plug it in and turn it on.

PROS:
* Actually can continuously monitor your child constantly and not limited to the sound trigger only mode that most other baby monitors have. This sound trigger only mode only sends video and audio to the receiver when there is a sound picked up by the camera. While other digital monitoring systems offers only this mode, the Uniden does not offer it at all, which is kind of a negative.

* great picture on the receiver...good color pic during the day and excellent night vision black and white pic.Absolutely NO static or interference.

* Both the camera and the receiver has rechargeable LiON batteries that runs 4 to 5 hours!! great for moving around from room to room...very convenient without having to drag an AC plug everywhere. \

* Comes with good wall mount bracket which allows you to also use it as a desktop stand for the camera in case you dont want to screw it to a ceiling or wall. You can adjust the angle with this bracket.

CONS:

* The volume on the receiver is set to max but is is soooo low.its ok at night when you are sleeping but you will not be able to hear if you have the TV cranked up.

* Interferes with my WiFi Router big time. When I have the camera and receiver on, my wireless download speed drops by 90%!!!!This is ok for now since I use this only at night when I'm not on my wireless network.* It has a motion detector in the camera but can only be used with the lap top recording feature.it would be nice to have it so that it cantrigger an alarm on the receiver or even turn the receiver video screen on only when motion is detected...but no such luck there.

* Does not have a feature like most baby monitors where the receiver is only activated when there is sound detected (I actually do not like this feature but good to have this option if needed). This unit only has a AUTO setting on the receiver which turns off the video after a timer. However the audio still continues which is good in baby monitoring cases.

* This is terrible. If you turn off the camera, the receiver only shows a display "no signal" on the screen...no audible alarm!!this is useless if you are sleeping and somehow you lose connection to your camera...you will never know unless you look at the screen.During this time...who knows what is going on with your baby!!

* Uniden tech support is terrible. When you call in, you are taken to a maze of options that do everything to keep you from a live person.I selected an option which was not even related to my product just to get a live person (after 3 attempts). Finally I got someone who was clueless of even the most basic product features. They did not even have an option for this product in the phone menus.I was told that a senior tech support rep would call back in 30 minutes...still no call back.

Dropcam Echo Wireless IP Home Security Camera with Audio and Online Recording Review

Dropcam Echo Wireless IP Home Security Camera with Audio and Online Recording

I have a Mac with a wifi system.I was *very* pleased to find that thiscamera is exceptionally easy to install (I don't enjoy messing with DNS, IP addresses etc).Just plug the supplied Ethernet cable into the router and the camera.Go to your computer and browse to [...] .Describe the color of the lights on the camera and ba boom.Your hot and good to go.

I got the 'echo' model and the sound works great - even from 30 feet away speaking in a normal voice.

Also, the notification system (sending me an email with there is motion or sound) worked great; as did being able to see my camera on my iPhone AND iPad.

So far I can't find anything I don't like about this camera.

AAS 100 Wireless Home Security Alarm System Pet Immune DIY (R) Review

AAS 100 Wireless Home Security Alarm System Pet Immune DIY
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am very pleased with this alarm system. It offers the same things that Brinks, ADT or any other professional security company would do without the monthly bill. After doing a little research I found out that rather if you hire a professional security company or install your own alarm system, it is against the law to have a alarm system dial directly to the police or 911. They will not respond to a pre-recorded message. That is why any professional security company will always call you first before calling the police and that is the same thing that this system will do.It calls you (with your prerecorded message) than you call the police. You also need to contact your local police department to find out if the city you live in requires you to have a (ALARM PERMIT). It only cost an average of $25.00 a year. Without an (ALARM PERMIT), you can be find heavily.

The alarm is easy to install, easy to program and it has a number of great features. If by any chance, someone managed to get in your house with out setting off a door or window sensor, they still won't get passed the motion detectors. The alarm will sound off (which is very loud) and the system will continuously dial up to 6 phone numbers (people that you know) to call the police. If your phone line is cut the alarm will sound off. If someone tries to tamper with the system the alarm will sound off. If you are at home, it can be set to turn off the motion detectors and still arm the door/ window sensors so you can move about your house freely. There are a few other features for personal preference. All in all I think it is a very good system and would recommend it to anyone. AAS also offer a number of different size packages to meet your needs.

AAS 600 Wireless Home Security Alarm System Kit DIY (R) Review

AAS 600 Wireless Home Security Alarm System Kit DIY
Average Reviews:

Took a risk with this alarm system w/o knowing much of the seller and the few technical specs provided. Well after receiving and testing a while it has met my expectations...especially for the price.
Some things to note which the seller forgot to mention. It comes w/ 2 horns which is essential for any alarm system (one outdoor for your neighbors to hear and one indoor for yourself). The installation instructions are sparse and seem hand made in a personal computer but it is clear enough so I haven't needed to contact them.
Of all the 30 plus components I received, 1 of the 5 motion detectors wasn't working. I didn't contact the seller to replace it since 4 is more than enough.
Programming the unit took less than an hour. Because all the units are wireless, you will need to replace batteries on everything which will be a real pain. The instructions don't say how long they last. But its better than running wires all over the house.
All in all, its everything I expected to provide a good deterrent from your opportunistic thieves. One of the reviewers here gave it only 1 star since it isn't foolproof. Well what do you expect from a $320 system? Yes, if a thief breaks a window and the alarm sounds, he can start searching the house for the keypad and horns and disable them, but I'm guessing they'd just split instead of taking the chance of getting caught (unless you live in the boondocks where neighbors will not here the alarm). You also get a phone call from the system that the alarms went off, so you can take appropriate action. Yes a pro will be able to disable it but i bet he can disable most of the other alarm systems out there as well...

Wireless Security Camera System 2010 Latest Technology BUILD-IN DVR Infrared Surveillance (4) Quad View Quad Display 2.4ghz Night Vision Real Time Color Review

Wireless Security Camera System 2010 Latest Technology BUILD-IN DVR Infrared Surveillance Quad View Quad Display 2.4ghz Night Vision Real Time Color

I bought this system on March 24, 2010; did not receive it until April 9 due to a "problem" with the receiver and replacement systems were shipped from Homg Kong. Initially, the system was fine, very easy to install the software, although the color was a bit washed out even at close range. Camera 2 failed after 2 weeks having an audio noise issue (loud buzzing & pops) no matter where it was placed. Emailed the seller on 05/10/2010 about the lack of warranty information and phone number for customer service. No response (Chowaka LLC). On 05/20, camera 4 stopped transmitting video either wireless or cable and was very hot to the touch. I assume the circuit board had a power issue or compenant failure; the audio is still functioning.
Do not buy this system; no warranty, no phone numbers, no customer service from Chowaka. We have filed a claim with Amazon and will purchase a different system.
