(More customer reviews)I know very little about such cameras, but ordered it from the Amazon Vine program just to monitor my back yard.I live in a rural area, and I was interested in using the camera to monitor wildlife.I have an acre of land that backs up to mostly undeveloped mountains, so consequently there are many critters that roam through the area, including my yard.Among the nocturnal visitors I frequently get black bears (who like to take out my bird feeders, forcing me to take them in at dusk).I was curious as to just what might be visiting my property at night, so I installed this camera so as to monitor as much of my yard as possible.Installation was very easy, taking about 15 minutes.I have connected the receiver to both a television (an old analog set gathering dust) and, alternatively, to a VCR.There is an adaptor that allows one to plug the unit into a standard RCA plug, as well as an extension cord (which I did not need).
The good: easy to install, pretty good color rendition during daylight hours, and it has a fairly sensitive receiver.And, for my purpose (which does not include the need for face recognition, of course) this device is sufficiently clear to allow me to identify various animals wondering in the yard.However, as noted by others, it's not all good; there seems to be interference that causes the top half of the image to exhibit squiggly lines (when connected to the tv; this does not occur when connected to the VCR). I intend to move the tv and receiver around some and see if that ends the problem, but am not optimistic.If it helps, I'll amend this review.
My assessment would be that should you need such a camera for important surveillance or security applications, keep looking.However,if you want one for a reason such as mine (to check out wildlife or perhaps to monitor your driveway or such), then this item would be sufficient.
