The box feels very cheap.

There is no way to set it up without having a TV. What?

Tech support is so bad it isn't funny - I asked questions and they read in the user guide to give me responses. No responses that were not straight from the manual.

The Internet interface does not allow for proper configuration of the unit.

The box is supposedly Linux but tech support can not give a way to get to a text interface with it. I assume (probably erroneously) that if I could get a shell prompt I could configure this properly.
My assumption was probably in error because the web interface was obviously not programmed by someone who understands English well. In fact, it feels as if it were programmed by someone who has little to no understanding of English and who used some cheap online translation tools to come up with menus.

The BNC connectors and cables and mains cables are anergonomically thin (cheesy looking and feeling). Sure, the DVR only uses 12 W (plus the HD. What?) but so what?

I find it odd, really. I mean, sure, I know that I'm picky, and all, but this was the highest rated system for the price. The highest rated system I could find anywhere - doing a ridiculous amount of research. What it all comes down to, I guess, is that other people must go into purchases with low expectations, or something. I want something that will work! I'm astonished, in this day and age, that this is the best that we can do. In fact, I'm quite positive that for the price this is nowhere near the best we can do - it's not even "average"! It's appalling! And it's missing the simplest of things! It doesn't matter that you can get to it from an iPhone if the interface you can get to doesn't make sense and doesn't have any help in it! At least I go out in the field and see my users and see what issues they have and then get fixes and clarifications into our tools. That is so not the case here it isn't funny.

The user manual (or unit) is so bad it isn't funny."You cannot connect to the Internet [something like that] if you go through 2 or more routers."What? That's not how TCP works.Sure, they don't want to provide services (don't want to have to help people set this up) but that doesn't meant that it can't do it.Unless, gasp, it can't do it.Which would be worse than just having bad documentation!

The viewer software provided with the unit crashes every time I use it.Good work, guys! And, it's not like I'm doing anything fancy - I'm just trying to view files saved on the DVR!

Lastly...This looks one heck of a lot like the cheap crap that they sell through Harbor Freight.Yeah, sure, the name badge changes but...So?It's not like "Night Owl" actually exists in this country anyway! It's just a phone number! And, as pointed out earlier, the people at the other end of the phone don't even know the products!Lame.Garbage.Save your money for a decent unit!

After lastly (ha)...The Iphone app is crap. You can look that one up - it's called APlayer.Note the generic name? That would be because they sell this junk under a bunch of different names not because they're using open standards or anything like that.Minimal interface, no help, no workie! What?Me?Bitter? You bet.I hate getting taken!
