UPDATE June 1, 2009COP-USA finally made good by providing a replacement camera 2 months after the first request of an RMA.This camera works great.Such a shame the customer service is so poor.Below is the original review.

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!I'll never purchase from Spytown (distributor) or COP-USA (manufacturer) ever again.I purchased COP-USA's PH35 door camera through Spytown. The camera was defective out of the box as the lens came apart at the wrong end and 7-8 pieces of the lens assembly fell out.

Spytown had no response to providing an RMA so I could return the camera.6 phone calls, 2 online RMA requests over a 1 week period, no response.

Since I wasn't having any luck with Spytown, I contacted COP-USA directly in hopes of exchanging it since the west coast office is just a few miles from my home.Big mistake! The operator/receptionist stonewalled me telling me I needed to work with my retailer.I asked if I could talk to a technician in hopes he could tell me how to put the lens back together. She connected me to a technician that agreed the lens came apart at the wrong end, and I could stop by to pick up a new lens.Just as he said that, the operator cut him off (apparently she was listening), and told me, "he has no idea what he's talking about and you need to work through your retailer".I can't even begin to describe her tone with me.The tech was a good guy, but the operator clinched my decision with that company.

I finally did get an RMA # from Spytown...coincidently it was 4 days after disputing the charges with my credit card company.I sent the camera back, it's been a month now since they've had it.No word yet from Spytown.I don't expect one.

The shame of this entire situation is that for about one minute, I had an opportunity to resolve the entire issue by driving 10 minutes to the manufacturer, meet with the tech, and exchange the lens.Just mind blowing.

I bought this product and the retailer that sold it is great, so don't confuse them with the manufacturer. The manufacturer touts great customer service, but it is all lip service. The product was junk, out of the box and I elected to deal with the manufacturer rather than return it to the retailer. Big mistake. I first called their "tech department" who ran me through a bunch of steps and they concluded that it was faulty but that i would need to contact customer service for a "quick return" and that the would immediately send me a new one. However, calling the customer service department, it took me a week to finally talk to someone. (no, they don't return calls or emails the same day as they promise). In fact, they have no time for complaints and don't know how to resolve them. When I explained that the product simply did not work, they told me that I could send it back, but that i would be charged for the shipping back as well as $50.00 per hour if I was wrong, and "...they were sure that I was." Well, I returned the item, they took over 30 days, I emailed asking when I could expect the item back which I assume prompted them to mail it back because it arrived a week later. The sent me back an old box, with the mounting screws (minus one)just thrown in and rattling around leaving me thinking that they unit was damaged in shipping until I opened the box. (The mounting screws hadn't been opened out of the plastic when I sent it back). When I received it back, it did work. They also sent me a photograph of it working and the workers taunting me (really, no kidding). The taunt was a photo copy of a photo of a worker holding the product with an"E" which appears on the screen, which their "tech department" had told me indicated "error" and which they said was one of the indicators that the unit was faulty.I had brought this up to their "customer service" who said that I was wrong, thus the taunt upon it's return. Upon receipt of the new/repaired item, it does work. Bottom line, the product is junk and the company is simply not worth the trouble.

GE 45227 Smart Home IntelliCorder Motion Activated Digital Door Peephole Review

GE 45227 Smart Home IntelliCorder Motion Activated Digital Door Peephole

I bought my IntelliCorder because I had been experiencing some hangups and increased traffic outside my apartment door.Because my apartment complex is built like a hotel with enclosed walls and a lot of lighting in the hallway plus I can't drill any holes or didn't want to deal with any wires, I thought I would be a good candidate for this device.I installed the Intellicorder through my apartment's peephole and set it to Record where it would turn on and record activity (with sound) outside my door any time someone walked in front of it. In my case, I caught an intruder picking the lock to my apartment, entering my apartment and then locking it back up upon leaving (I am ordering a Wireless Alarm as we speak). The Intellicorder's time stamp device was good b/c it was able to tell me and the Police how long the intruder was inside and to know how long it took the intruder to pick the lock. The best parts of all was the clear picture of the intruder's face, the device was undetected by the intruder and I was able to email the police copies of the recordings (and they were pretty impressed with the device!)The only bad thing I can say about the device is that the Intellicorder produces the the recordings in an .AVI format and most Windows based computers can't read/view these types of files so you have to download the free .AVI reader from the website that GE recommends in their instructions (from divx.com) and tell other people (like the Police) how to download the reader. I wish they could enhance the next version of the Intellicorder device to choose the video format you want like .mpeg. I will post my copies of the recordings once the police moves a bit further in my case against the intruder but this device was well worth the money.
