(More customer reviews)My husband and I own both Macs and PCs, and like another reviewer mentions, this works better through PC installation. Otherwise, the process is just too tedious. We love the camera and the fact that it is wireless. The price is rather steep and if this had not been offered through Vine, I would not have purchased it. The features that we both liked were the patrol and alarm settings, the illuminator which is built-in and works beautifully, the fact that we can monitor through our iPhones, and availability of multiple modes of recording. The downside is the software which we did not find particularly user-friendly - I'm not as knowledgeable on these matters as my husband but not a total incompetent either, yet my initial efforts at installing this were frustrating. I then turned to my husband, who after a substantial amount of time, finally managed to install this. Final verdict - too expensive for what is being offered.

Returned items the next day using FEDEX 3 days delivery 26 days later still did not get a refund.Three weeks after I returned the merchandise I received an email telling me they completed testing the items I returned, and that I will hear from them soon. Sorry, defective merchandise, poor performance and poor customer service.

It is mounted in a high exposed location where the coverage of the 3.6mm lens provides a semi wide angle view.The 28 LED provide adequate illumination for a distance of about 35 feet.It may work at a greater distance but that is distance in my installation.The cables exit the camera out of the center of the back so there is no real way to protect them from vandalism at this point.The camera comes with a 100 foot cable 1/8 of an inch in diameter and a power supply.This cable was used in initial testing of the camera and it worked OK but I would not use this cable in the actual permanent installation because it appears too fragile.Too many bad reviews of small cables even though his one may be OK I will not take a chance.It takes hours to install the cables in my installation.If the cable fails because I stepped on it or bent it wrong it would be a major job to replace.I used full size RG59 Siamese cable with 95% shielding and 2-18 gage solid copper power lines. Camera gets a 5 star but as a set with the cable it is a 4 star.

(More customer reviews)This is my first Trendnet purchase and it will be my last.I am not sure why they thought it was a good idea to include a camera that doesn't support sound in a package marketed for baby monitoring and security.Actually the camera was the best part of the package.The monitor was useless.Even after a firmware upgrade it was so slow and sluggish that is was unusable.The software setup was not intuitive at all.I finally got it on the wifi network but it would only take a snapshot of the camera and then lockup.I also found it odd that it was able to take a snapshot of the camera without ever entering the camera password which makes me think the camera wasn't very secure.I found another review online that noted the same problems with the M7 being unresponsive.I am not sure how a company can release such garbage on consumers.

Lorex LNE3003 Wireless Color Remote Easy Connect MPEG4 IP Network Camera Review

(More customer reviews)I really wanted to like this product.It is certainly a very cool idea.A self-contained camera with an mpeg encoder that can connect wirelessly (or wired) to a standard home network, and broadcast video to any laptop over a web browser.And, indeed, it does try to do all that, but only partially succeeds.

First, kudos on the packaging.It is high quality, has all the necessary parts, including a short ethernet cable, a metal swivel mount, and even a couple of zip ties to keep things neat.I was very excited to unwrap the goodies!

The first snag I hit was that the wireless ability only works on a WEP network, not WPA.I moved all my routers to WPA security long ago because WEP is no longer considered secure.Because I'm not going to downgrade the security of my home network, wireless is out for me as an option.Still, it isn't so bad for me because I have lots of available hardwired ethernet ports in my house, and I figure that since I have to plug in the power adapter anyway, it won't really be wireless regardless.So, I went ahead with it but be sure and check that you have a port near where you intend to mount the camera before ordering one.

The part I was most worried about, the software, actually installed effortlessly and found the camera on my network without any trouble.One click and I was getting a streaming video feed right to my laptop, which was very cool!The image itself was color, but very blurry.That's because the lens has to be focused by turning it left or right, like a projector lens.That wasn't as easy to do as it sounded from on top of a step stool while trying to see my laptop screen (where the feed was) at the same time as turning the lens.I think a helper may have made this easier, but I was never able to get the focus sharp, and even when I got some things in the image somewhat in focus, other parts further or closer away would be blurry.So, I wasn't very successful with the lens focusing.

I also gave up trying to see the image from outside my network.It is clear that it is possible to do so, and the company has gone to great lengths to allow it.However, it requires service from Lorex as well as from a different company (Yoics), and by the time I had accounts with both and had installed the Yoics software, the whole thing just became too complex for me to keep fiddling with.So, while it is possible to do this, I wouldn't say it was easy.

Overall, because of the focus issue (I'm watching my blurry image type this right now), the lack of WPA support for wireless connection, and the complexity behind viewing it from outside the home, I recommend passing on this product.If you do go ahead and get one to play with, just be aware of its limitations in advance.It is a cool idea, and I'm sure the products in this space will continue to improve.

Schlage WCW100 LiNK Wireless Network Camera Review

(More customer reviews)This is my 3rd attempt at Internet monitoring of my home. I started with Panasonics, then moved to Logitech's WiLife system and now I've had the Schlagelink up & running for 2 months.
I abandoned the Panasonic because it was way too finicky to keep the weblink going. Constant tinkering & calls to tech support were required (tho their tech support people are tops). Their cams were pretty good with better resolution than the Schlagelink; they also feature pan & tilt, absent on the Schlage.
The WiLife looked promising, was simple to set-up & had very good resolution with both indoor & outdoor cams; these added a minimal degree of zoom to the mix. Unfortunately, they are electrically really skittish and any kind of interference knocked them out, sometimes fatally. I had bought 8 cams before I gave up.
Now the wireless Schlagelink is a bit coarser image and is essentially fixed, but it has never gone off line and looks stupendous on the iPhone app. Interestingly, while all my other Schlagelink modules (3 door locks, 3 thermostats, 3 light controllers) rely on the wireless bridge included in the starter kit, the camera runs independently of the bridge. Even better, if your wireless goes down for a bit, it will reconnect when the wireless is up again & in a pinch it can even "borrow" a neighbor's wireless if available.
I'd like to give it 4.5 stars because of the limited resolution & lack of features, but as it fully delivers what it promises, I'm going to go all the way.

(More customer reviews)There is an entire series of these cameras produced by Dlink, which can be grouped into one product line. This being the most expensive of the line, would have the least reviews and exposure. Read about the others before buying.

I was just called to a new client site last week that has 11 cameras installed.
Of the 11, half at any given time will drop off the network and/or lock up. He was continually calling his exiting tech guy who performed the install to reset them and eventually called me in because he wasn't getting in his own words "what he paid for".

I've used netstumlber and a few other apps to verify the wireless network health, which in my opinion is very good. At the farthest point, I am still receiving 92% signal with a non-enhanced Linksys router. Other devices on his network are problem free; the issues are isolated to the cameras.

Short of recommending the client box them and send them back for a refund, I've emailed DLink for any opinions or aftermarket "fixes". They are running the latest firmware. I've tried to pick a few up on E-Bay to at least test them in a controlled environment, but spending $400 per camera when there are obvious problems would not be something I would be willing to invest in. It would be something I would be interested in since if they do work as promised, I could recommend them to future clients.

My credentials, ex-NYPD officer and instructor, CCNP/CCDP CISSP, have a 10+ year networking business serving major Brokerage houses in Manhattan and have a smaller business auditing networks, recommending network security, and wireless solutions.

I will follow-up if Dlink provides an actual solution. AIM is my username above if anyone has jumped this hurdle.

FOLLOW-UP
10 days have passed and not a peep back from DLink Tech support. Considering that the inquiry was for a $6500 total DLink purchase which was detailed in the e-mail, it would lead someone to believe that selling is important, support is not. I called their sales line and someone immediately picked up. Sorry, Ford Motors in 1908 wouldn't have survived if their Model-T failed to start "most" of the time.

The cameras were boxed up and sent back. I was able to pull a few down and place them in a controlled environment for testing. Of the 3 I tested, 1 locked up within 24 hours. Not a good score. Still they also are trying to get into the infrastructure market with hubs, switches, and larger corporate items. I support over 40,000 users on my main account and their line is one I can't recommend.

Waiting for DLink. Not too confident they will get back to me.

GE 45227 Smart Home IntelliCorder Motion Activated Digital Door Peephole Review

(More customer reviews)I bought my IntelliCorder because I had been experiencing some hangups and increased traffic outside my apartment door.Because my apartment complex is built like a hotel with enclosed walls and a lot of lighting in the hallway plus I can't drill any holes or didn't want to deal with any wires, I thought I would be a good candidate for this device.I installed the Intellicorder through my apartment's peephole and set it to Record where it would turn on and record activity (with sound) outside my door any time someone walked in front of it. In my case, I caught an intruder picking the lock to my apartment, entering my apartment and then locking it back up upon leaving (I am ordering a Wireless Alarm as we speak).The Intellicorder's time stamp device was good b/c it was able to tell me and the Police how long the intruder was inside and to know how long it took the intruder to pick the lock.The best parts of all was the clear picture of the intruder's face, the device was undetected by the intruder and I was able to email the police copies of the recordings (and they were pretty impressed with the device!)The only bad thing I can say about the device is that the Intellicorder produces the the recordings in an .AVI format and most Windows based computers can't read/view these types of files so you have to download the free .AVI reader from the website that GE recommends in their instructions (from divx.com) and tell other people (like the Police) how to download the reader. I wish they could enhance the next version of the Intellicorder device to choose the video format you want like .mpeg. I will post my copies of the recordings once the police moves a bit further in my case against the intruder but this device was well worth the money.

(More customer reviews)Overall, this is a great system. I was impressed with the reception and the graphics. That being said, I had to return it for two reasons. 1) The system did not come with a remote control. I called Lorex customer service and they can easily take care of that. 2) Although the system is described as an indoor/outdoor system, it is NOT weatherproof. I always thought that if a surveillance system was outdoor, it could withstand the weather. When I called customer service about this, they pointed out that the lens cannot get wet, otherwise it may not work correctly. In addition, there can be no moisture allowed into the system itself. I only discovered this after hooking up the system.
Just keep in mind that although it is a good sytem, it is NOT waterproof.
