U.S. Patrol Driveway Patrol Infrared Wireless Alert System Review

U.S. Patrol Driveway Patrol Infrared Wireless Alert System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
For my situation...this product works great.A few false alarms, but I dont think thats the fault of the unit. Its just picking up motion from something I havent figured out yet. This unit does not come with an A/C adapter...it should.I will eventually get one.Ive had the patrol about a month now and I am very pleased with it. The only reason I dont give it 5 stars is the lack of an A/C adapter.Of course it would cost more, but I would have liked that option. Possibly another of their products does come with one.So far the batteries are lasting, time will tell how long, and certainly that is going to be dependent on how many times it goes off. There is no volume setting..you only have 3 settings...high...low...and off. That is not an issue for me.For the money this is a great product. It performs for what it is intended for and works for what I wanted it for...which is to alert me when someone enters my drive way. I wanted this unit because my car was recently broken into..I do expect that in the future this unit will alert me to intruders.

Lorex LW1020 Color Wireless Remote Surveillance System with Indoor/Outdoor Night Vision Camera (Black) Review

Lorex LW1020 Color Wireless Remote Surveillance System with Indoor/Outdoor Night Vision Camera
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The LW1020 is an overall well planned product. When connected to a TV or VCR for recording, the image quality for both day and night settings is very good. The wireless feature is also a plus and reduces the wire clutter when mounting to a wall. The problems with this unit arise when the user wants to connect to a PC and view the video stream over the internet. The software that the unit comes with is extremely buggy and causes endless computer freezes that are only remedied by uninstalling the software.Customer service was very rude and degrading and did not help solve the computer crashes. Don't expect this product to solve your security needs.

Average Reviews:

I have 2 of these I bought to monitor my home.If you have a capture card on your computer these work great...hook up to a vcr is easy too but you better have an older unit with RCA ins. Also live monitoring via TV or thru a vcr is great but if you plan on recording thru the VCR, as I said before you'll need an older model that allows you to record from the line in. Or you'll need to convert an RCA (or S-Video) connector to Coaxal. I have a mutli-port capture card and some great software by Lorex that allows me to do more with the camera.also the 9 volt adapter is a great idea, but will only last around 2 1/2 hrs.All in all it's a good basic monitoring camera.

Linksys Compact Wireless-G Internet Video Camera Review

Linksys Compact Wireless-G Internet Video Camera
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The image quality of this camera isn't great, and as the other reviewer states, it needs lots of light. The resolution of the video is fairly poor, comparable to a very cheap 4-year-old webcam. If you need to see detail in the image (e.g. for certain security-camera purposes), then it will not work.

Another thing to note is that this camera is much bigger than it looks--it is about the size of your hand. I was hoping to squeeze it into a tight space, but the camera's size took me by surprise. It will be difficult to hide this camera if you are hoping to use it for hidden security purposes.

In sum, if you need a cheap camera that can sit out in the open and take low-detail video of a well-lit room, then this is your product. Otherwise, you should look for more professional (or wired) cameras.

Product Description:
The Linksys Compact Wireless-G Internet Video Camera sends live video through the Internet to a web browser anywhere in the world! This compact, self-contained unit lets you keep track of your home, your kids, your workplace -- whatever's important to you. Unlike standard "web cams" that require an attached PC, the Internet Video Camera contains its own web server, so it can connect directly to a network, either over Wireless-G (802.11g) networking, or over 10/100 Ethernet cable. The advanced MPEG-4 video compression produces a high-quality, high-frame rate, up to 320x240 video stream. The Compact Internet Video Camera's unique form-factor and wireless connectivity allows you to mount it on a wall nearly anywhere, or slip it into its included stand for desktop use. Once it's connected to your home network, you can "see what it sees" from any Windows-based PC in the house, while the video stream is secured from the outside world, hidden behind your Router. If you want the video to be visible from outside your home network, you can open an appropriate port on the Router, and then create password protected accounts to manage access to the camera, or leave it wide open for the world to see. The SoloLink domain service (trial sign-up included) lets you access your camera using an easy-to-remember "name", even if your home Internet connection uses a dynamic IP address.

TRENDnet Internet Surveillance Camera TV-IP100 Review

TRENDnet Internet Surveillance Camera TV-IP100
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this camera and the Linksys WVC54GC.I don't really care about the wireless, but Linkys only offers wireless cameras.

This camera offers several improvments over the Linksys:

1. The TV-IP100 supports both Java and ActiveX, so you're not stuck with Internet Explorer or the lousy bundled software to view the video from the camera. The quality of the video is also much better. This camera does have a focus ring, so make sure to adjust it for the best picture quality.

2. The bundled software is better. It never crashed on me like the Linksys software would. TIP:Download IP-View Pro from TrendNet's support site by clicking on the link for the older versions of this camera (version A1 or B2).IP-View Pro offers more functionality than the IP-View SE bundled with the camera on CD, and appears to support more than the 4 cameras the SE version is limitted to.

3. A bonus for those who have POE (Power Over Ethernet) injectors or hubs, is that this camera's power connector is the right size and polarity to work with most 5V POE splitters. My setup delivers power to the camera of the spare wires in the ethernet cable.Linksys for some reason chose to use a smaller barrel connector than what my POE splitters come with, so an adapter is necessary.

If you really want or need Wireless connectivity, there is a wireless version of this camera.

InGrid SK803IG Home Monitoring Kit for 2500 Square Foot Homes Review

InGrid SK803IG Home Monitoring Kit for 2500 Square Foot Homes
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been shopping for alarms systems for a while now. I wanted something easy to install that offered extended protection and had some kind of notification for entry, alarms, etc. This system fit the bill perfectly!

First of all, it took less than 2-hours to completely install this system.Right from the get-go I knew this was going to be easy. As soon as I opened the box, I was armed with an Easy Setup Guide and boxes labeled 1, 2, 3 & 4. Following the well written instructions was a snap. First the base that plugs into my router, next the phone and charger for the bedroom, then the console by the front door and finally the extender in the living room.

Once the "core" system was hooked up, sensor installation and set-up was a breeze. You can configure each sensor for the way you plan on using it. For me, that was four windows, three entry doors and the real surprise . . . my garage door in what InGrid calls "convenience" mode. (I will never leave the garage door open overnight again!) There are many customized sensor options to choose from and you can use the handset, console or the myInGrid website for tweaking the settings.

The sensors themselves attach via some incredibly strong double sided sticky tape and they blend in nicely with the white frames of my windows. They are however quite visible on my oak door frames. Not ugly, but not exactly stealthy. (See customer images.)

Arming and Disarming the system is a snap. You can choose between "Instant" arming, "Stay" at home arming or the most common, "Leave" the home arming. Customizable exit and entry delays give you plenty (or just enough) time to arm and disarm. Disarming requires a PIN# to be entered before the set time expires. You can also use the included keychain remote or myInGrid website to arm/disarm.

My favorite part of the system is the notifications. I have it setup to email my work and personal email address anytime a sensor opens/closes, an alarm triggers or an important event or malfunction takes place. You can even set it up to text message you alerts.

For now I am "self monitoring" the home and relying on notifications in the event of an intrusion. This isn't optimal (especially if I'm offline) so I'll be setting up the $30/month 24/7 Professional Monitoring service in the next couple weeks.

I'll add more to my review as I continue to thoroughly test the system. Even after only a week of ownership, I can highly recommend this to anyone whose needs are similar to mine.

For a limited time, enjoy Pay-As-You-Go pricing with no annual contract.

Trust InGrid's National Experience
Over 99% of security companies are small, local or serve customers in just a few areas. InGrid is one of just a handful of nationwide security companies. InGrid's national footprint allows us to bring you breakthrough safety features and advanced services that most other security companies cannot offer. Since you own your InGrid system, you can take it with you when you move.

We partner with over 25,000 local police, fire and medical agencies in all 50 states. InGrid's monitoring center has spent years developing and maintaining the proprietary databases and relationships to know who to call so that during an emergency, time is not wasted getting you help. It's just another part of InGrid's commitment to rapid response.

What's in the box

The InGrid Home System includes a Keypad Console, Handset, Eight Sensors a Keychain Remote, Base and Grid Extender for increased range. InGrid also offers the "Basic System" for homes and apartments less than 1,500 square feet. The only thing you need to operate your security system is a high-speed Internet connection, an in-home router, and InGrid Home Monitoring service (once again, no annual contract is required). Please note that your InGrid security system cannot be activated without a subscription to an InGrid home monitoring plan ($29.99/month with no annual contract).

The Console – Not a Typical Keypad.
The InGrid Keypad Console gives you everything you'd expect from a security system keypad, plus a whole lot more. Not only does the Keypad Console act as your command central, it also acts as information central, displaying up-to-the minute weather as well as severe weather alerts. Need help remembering things? The console can also display customized notifications on the easy-to-read screen (such as important dates like birthdays and anniversaries).

The Handset – Better Control Means Better Safety.
The Handset, which doubles as a cordless phone, can be taken with you anywhere in and around your home. Your system's controls and panic button are always at hand. Instead of a single keypad anchored by your front door, you're now free to roam your home, backyard or porch AND have instant access to your home's protection. What's more, the handset allows you to monitor activity in other rooms of your home. A phone line is not required for your security connection, but is required to use the handset as a cordless phone or digital answering machine.

Door/Window/Cabinet Sensors
Door/window sensors, also known as open/close sensors, are designed to detect the opening of a window, door or cabinet. These sensors are the most common component of any security system, typically used on exterior doors and windows.

InGrid's sensors can be used for non-emergency notification on things such as on firearm, medicine, or liquor cabinets. Sensors can trigger an email, text message or MyInGrid event indicating that something has been moved or opened.

The Keychain Remote
Of all the innovations built into InGrid, none is more convenient than the keychain remote. Arm or disarm your home or trigger a panic at the push of a button. Because the keychain remote is two-way, you can be 100% sure the system arms and disarms by hearing the confirmation beep or green light. With a common, analog keychain remote, you never know if the system arms or disarms correctly. That's not a secure feeling. The Keychain Remote's confirmation beep is just another way that InGrid makes you feel always-protected.

Grid Controller
InGrid is built to deliver a grid of protection. If any controller is disabled, others step in to allow the system to continue to function. This makes InGrid nearly burglar-proof, as there is no single master control panel or point of vulnerability. And, every InGrid component comes with battery back-up to keep you safe in the event of power loss.

From the Manufacturer
InGrid was designed to go from box to full home protection in minutes. While InGrid can be set up in an average home by almost anyone in roughly 90 minutes, it is built to deliver far superior reliability and security compared to traditional systems. Since you install it yourself, there is no need for strangers to come to your home, drilling holes in your walls or special tools. If you can plug in a cordless phone, you can set up your own customized secure system, easily.

Each kit comes pre-configured; you simply open up each numbered box and plug in each component sequentially. When we designed InGrid, we created a system that offers superior home and family protection in every way possible. While most systems have a single point of vulnerability (a single master control panel that can be disabled in seconds), InGrid distributes the control points to several controllers, each a fully functioning mini-system that continually talks with all of the sensors. If one component is disabled, the others are still protecting you.

But InGrid is so much more than just home security; your system can also send you alerts and allow you to monitor non-emergency events that are just as important to your peace of mind. Whether you're on vacation, at the office, or out to dinner, you'll be able to tell who's coming and going, and when, without alarms or the police showing up.

InGrid Home Monitoring is included with your monthly security monitoring. Please note that your InGrid Security System cannot be activated without a monthly monitoring plan. With our 30-day risk-free guarantee and no annual contracts, there is no reason not to install InGrid and enjoy its superior protection, convenience and value.

The only thing i can say bad about this product is the flimsy camera mounting brackets.after using some of the foam shipped with the product, the camera's actually stay in set place, instead of finding their balanced weight when top mounted or shooting skyward when bottom mounted. Oh, yea don't pull too much on the 60ft camera cord, they will break internally. out of 1200ft only 1, 60ft section didn't work.Other than that, i think its worth every penny, compared to namebrand systems, such as honeywell or sony.

Average Reviews:

I have been using my new VTECH phones for about a month now--I wanted to wait at least this long before submitting a review so I could give the product a workout and submit a fair review.

The phones are light weight but well built; the buttons have a great feel and the display is easy to read.I spent about 10 minutes reviewing the nicely organized and easy-to-understand instruction manual before I was well on my way to programming numbers and setting other features. The sound quality has been consistently good and once you've reviewed the manual you'll find the buttons and features to be quite intuitive.

From a practical standpoint, I was looking for a two-station cordless phone that does not have a built-in answering machine as I have voicemail with my phone service. So this phone fit the bill.

There are a couple of features I miss from my old phones I replaced--a belt clip (for trips to the garage when I don't want to miss a call) and a headphone jack. However, given the excellent price point of this product, I have no room to complain (For long conference calls I have been using the speakerphone feature, which also works well).I read some reviews where people complained that this phone does not have distinctive ring tones. If this is a feature you absolutely can't live without, look for a different product--remember, the price is great for what you get.

In case you're wondering, I have had zero interference with my home wireless network, which would have prompted me to immediately return this product.

The bottom line: If you're looking for a good-quality phone at a very attractive price, this is the one.

I had to replace some of my security camera's in the past, the construction in other camera's was poor. This Camera is superb. the construction is solid. No outside plastic material. The focus is sharp, and the wide angle aspect gives an excellent view without compromise. The night time led lights are abundant and gives a very respectful total darkness picture.None of the other cameras I have owned had as many led's as this one. All said, the price is a bargain. Best Scam Cam I've seen.Presents itself very realistically for a low price.I have used three on my site for 6 months and am very pleased.I've recently ordered a few more for a large outdoor site.

The product uses two "C" batteries per unit.Onced placed into plastic body, the batteries are sealed off from weather.I have the units placed under outdoor roof eves that have a wide overhang and are protected from weather and function well. The units have endured South Florida's tropical sun which can degrade plastics within a few weeks. The material is color safe and held it's original contruction specifications.

There is an LED light that flashes every second.

The unit can be locked into a variety of positions, can be turned 360 degrees, and is easy to install.I would have liked bigger, heavier screws to install.

It is probably built better than the real thing.

For the low price and realistic appearance, this is an excellent product that I rated 5 stars, as it had everything I wanted and needed, and never failed me in any way.

Average Reviews:

I installed the system myself on April 12 and it has been working great. The quality of the images is very good and it gives me peace of mind to know that everything that goes on around the house is being recorded. The DDNS is a plus!! I'm constantly monitoring the system over the internet.

We have an alarm system that calls my cell phone when it goes off and before purchasing this system I had no idea as to what set the alarm off. Now I simply write down the time of the call and when I get home I simply search the video for that time period.

I purchased and additional 60ft. cable in case I need to move one of the cameras further.

Thanks for bringing this great unit at such an affordable price. I did quite a bit of research and this system was above the rest.

Q-See QSDT4PCRC 4 Channel H.264 PCI DVR Card
Average Reviews:

Software sucks, constant interference trips software motion detection. Customer service is a joke. I got a quick response when e-mailed, It was infuriating it was like talking to a robot with bad English! I could get the remote monitoring working in IE8 in Windows 7 with problems, but works better in XP running IE8. I have an HTC Touch PRO (with a stock rom) the windows mobile software is incompatible I'm assuming because of the VGA screen, It might run on a QVGA screen I dont't know for sure (I Wouldn't be surprised if it didn't). The remote monitoring software works fine on an iphone. There is an unsupported (independent) app available for the android, but it crashes the SERVER every time you run the program. Bottom line this product works good for the money. But don't plan on doing any cell phone monitoring unless you have an iphone. Don't buy this unless you have set up a DVR before, and know your computers. Don't plan on contacting customer support. Well you can contact them but don't plan on it doing you any good. The product says the remote viewing software works with Windows Mobile Pro 6.1, which is the OS my phone runs.I'll include a copy of my mind numbing conversation with Q-SEE.(ME) - I bought this card to be able to monitor my dvr from my cell phone. The software than installs on my phone does not run properly. It does not display correctly. I have an HTC Touch Pro. I'm sure there are other people having this problem as well. Thank you

(Q-SEE) - Is your phone running windows mobile pro 6.5? If so you are correct there probably many others having the same problem. The card will work with mobile pro 6.1 but the factory is still working on revisions that will allow the card to work with the changes that microsoft made in 6.5. They have not given us a time frame yet for these revisions.

(ME) - No i am running 6.1 I think its because I have a vga screen and the software is native to a qvga

(Q-SEE) - Yes you are correct, you need to change the screen resolution. So is it working now ?

(ME) - Any suggestions on how to change the screen resolution on a Windows Mobile Smartphone Running windows mobile 6.1?

(Q-SEE) - need to know exact make and model of your Phone. To my knowledge, there are no settings to change vga on the phones. On my HTC Mogul running 6.1 there are no settings.

(ME) - Sprint's HTC Touch Pro Win Mo Pro 6.1

... It's been over seven business day's and I've had no response... The software version was 6.3.1.1.

Good Luck

After spending almost an hour on hold with Lorex's support, I am told that they have *NO* USB products that work with Windows 7.They say it works with XP, but I have no way of testing that.

Lorex LNE3003 Wireless Color Remote Easy Connect MPEG4 IP Network Camera Review

Lorex LNE3003 Wireless Color Remote Easy Connect MPEG4 IP Network Camera
Average Reviews:

I really wanted to like this product. It is certainly a very cool idea.A self-contained camera with an mpeg encoder that can connect wirelessly (or wired) to a standard home network, and broadcast video to any laptop over a web browser. And, indeed, it does try to do all that, but only partially succeeds.

First, kudos on the packaging. It is high quality, has all the necessary parts, including a short ethernet cable, a metal swivel mount, and even a couple of zip ties to keep things neat.I was very excited to unwrap the goodies!

The first snag I hit was that the wireless ability only works on a WEP network, not WPA.I moved all my routers to WPA security long ago because WEP is no longer considered secure.Because I'm not going to downgrade the security of my home network, wireless is out for me as an option.Still, it isn't so bad for me because I have lots of available hardwired ethernet ports in my house, and I figure that since I have to plug in the power adapter anyway, it won't really be wireless regardless. So, I went ahead with it but be sure and check that you have a port near where you intend to mount the camera before ordering one.

The part I was most worried about, the software, actually installed effortlessly and found the camera on my network without any trouble. One click and I was getting a streaming video feed right to my laptop, which was very cool! The image itself was color, but very blurry. That's because the lens has to be focused by turning it left or right, like a projector lens. That wasn't as easy to do as it sounded from on top of a step stool while trying to see my laptop screen (where the feed was) at the same time as turning the lens.I think a helper may have made this easier, but I was never able to get the focus sharp, and even when I got some things in the image somewhat in focus, other parts further or closer away would be blurry. So, I wasn't very successful with the lens focusing.

I also gave up trying to see the image from outside my network. It is clear that it is possible to do so, and the company has gone to great lengths to allow it.However, it requires service from Lorex as well as from a different company (Yoics), and by the time I had accounts with both and had installed the Yoics software, the whole thing just became too complex for me to keep fiddling with. So, while it is possible to do this, I wouldn't say it was easy.

Overall, because of the focus issue (I'm watching my blurry image type this right now), the lack of WPA support for wireless connection, and the complexity behind viewing it from outside the home, I recommend passing on this product. If you do go ahead and get one to play with, just be aware of its limitations in advance. It is a cool idea, and I'm sure the products in this space will continue to improve.

Mini In/outdoor Color Bullet Camera Review

Mini In/outdoor Color Bullet Camera
Average Reviews:

I bought this camera to replace a wireless unit that had terrible reception. In my fairly well lit living room it had a good picture with nice color. When I installed it at the customer site, their fluorescent lit studio produced an extremely overblown picture and the camera had no idea what to do with it. The iris was probably stuck between low light and regular mode. Unfortunately the room lighting never changes so I was unable to use this camera. I brought the camera back home and was amazed by the sharpness of it's lens in strong light. Under the right lighting circumstances, this is a great camera. This camera is not useful in low light, in a dimly lit room all i got was static. Also, there seems to be an IR filter as it could not pick anything up from another camera's emitter.

Pros:
Tiny, about the size of a laser pointer
Comes with everything you need except a monitor
Excellent high res image with good color
Pre focused lens from about 2 feet to infinity
Reasonably wide lens

Cons:
Small body heats up indoors, may not be suitable for outdoor mounting without being shaded
Terrible wall anchors provided, barely able to support the weight of the camera itself
Iris doesn't like moderately lit rooms
Doesn't work with IR emitters
Bad with very low light

Panasonic Wireless 802.11 b/g Network Camera and Pet Cam (BL-C30A) Review

Panasonic Wireless 802.11 b/g Network Camera and Pet Cam
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Let me begin by offering my overall experience with this camera.I had no difficulty at all setting it up for either wired or wireless operation. The included software worked flawlessly allowing me to easily operate the pan and tilt operations, and allowing me to record sessions.

For my purposes, my intention was to supplement a surveillance system I currently have in operation using two high resolution Toshiba network cameras.I was hoping to be able to get half-decent quality from a camera costing about 1/2 of the cost of the Toshibas.Unfortunately, that's what I got...about half the image quality.

In general 640x480 does not provide sufficient resolution for surveillance as you cannot make out features in any detail. For example, you may be able to see someone entering your home, but you'll never be able to identify that person.Overall clarity was ok, better than, for example, another Linksys camera that I tried, but still I was unable to identify facial features in a person standing just 10 feet from the camera (using all of the highest image quality modes). Comparing this to my Toshiba cameras operating at just 800x600 is like comparing night to day, as the Toshiba is able to distinguish relatively fine detail.

All in all, for the price, it does what it advertises, and is better than other lower cost cameras that I've also tried (like the Linksys). However, I've found no camera in this price range to be able to work as a true surveillance camera.(I suggest the Toshiba IK-WB11A as the entry point of true surveillance network cameras.)

Video Door Phone Intercom System 7" LCD Color Monitor & Night Vision CCD Camera Review

Video Door Phone Intercom System 7' LCD Color Monitor & Night Vision CCD Camera

I Installed this item in a warehouse that needs to monitor access to an entrance. It was very simple to install and the display is a good size with excellent resolution. The camera "fish eyes" pretty good so you see a lot more of the outside than just what is in front of the lens. I accidentally dropped the camera part when installing it. It dropped about 5 feet onto concrete and still worked, Thank God. This is a very well made product!
